Craig L as a current competitor, John B as an ex competitor.
Both genuine gentlemen of the category, humble, down to earth, appreciative. And they're fairly good steerers from all accounts ..... hahahaha Both of them dig the fans and give a lot back to motorsport as a whole.

Supercar/V8 era - JB hands down.
All around pro. Ambrosse would be a close second. In terms of ATCC (Group A/C & Supertaxis) Dick Johnson in a canter.

Marcos Ambrose.
Dragged Ford Motorsport Australia out of a hole, Rookie of the year his first season, leading Ford man his second season and would have had 3 championships on his way to NASCAR if a few questionable "calls" hadn't been made through the season. Fords line-up still has a massive hole where he once stood a massive 6 seasons later, the year he returns to take on the mountain i'll make the journey for the first time. John bowe was another of my favorites, love watching the TCM now that he is in it. |

For me it would be a toss up between Lowndes and Ambrose. As you can tell Ive only been into the V8SC's since the AU and vaguly remember Dick Johnson in the Yellow Shell EL's if Im correct. But I was pretty young then and dont remember much.
I love Ambrose's skill and Lowndes personality.

I only got into the V8's a few years ago,'but I'm now hooked! So much so I've bought Mark Winterbottoms 1/18 scale car.
For me my favorite drivers are Frosty and Craig Lowndes. Both seem like nice guys. Will Davison a close 3rd. Don't remember Ambros that much. I've got seasons 2009 to 2011 on DVD. I'm kind of hooked!

For his sake I hope he doesn't. He's number one in my book, he even made that AU competitive. BA came along and their was lion's blood everywhere. There's one guy that leaves a good impression on me and it's Lowndes for his gentleman-like behaviour. Never 6itches or whines, always diplomatic. Edit: I have changed my mind on the favourite. It must go to Tony Longhurst for punching Paul Morris. |

Have to agree with BUSHBASHER. You are quoting that Perkins was a lap down on the leader , which means Perkins won the race from being a lap down from lap one of the great race. Just because someone is a lap down, doesn't mean they are a lap down on the whole field, as you are insinuating. They only need 1 car to do a lap more than them, to go that magic lap down.

the first bushbasher quote was that perkins was the only man to win bathurst from a lap down - wrong. brock was a lap down in 1980 the second bushbasher quote suggested that perkins/ingall unlapped themselves - wrong again. after his pitstop on lap 1 perkins came out of the pits slightly ahead of wayne gardner in the coke commode dore. jim richards in the winfield commode dore then passed wayne for the lead of the race. jim proceeded to put a lap on perkins, and from that point on perkins followed jim within a few seconds. the fact that he was staying with jim, meant he was pulling away from glenn seton who was now in second. when the winfield commode dore expired with skaife at the wheel, perkins was back on the lead lap he was not the first - and he never unlapped himself since the motor racing fans and media conveniently forgot about brock being a lap down on johnson on lap 17 of the 1980 race, i figured that if brock had not done it, then perkins had not either. pedantic: yes, fact: yes in a way. of course johnson never completed lap 17 and brock was back on the lead lap, although he did not actually unlap himself. the only car that was a lap ahead had retired before brock was back on the lead lap so pedantic or otherwise. perkins was not the first to win from a lap down. whether he was a lap down or not is irrellevant because the feat (if it had happened, had previously happened in 1980) and i previously let this go through to the keeper, although others picked up on it as well Quote:

If Perkins was a lap down by any driver, he would have to have unlapped himself somehow to end up in first place, wouldn't he? Be it on the track, or via pit strategy. Either way, he managed to get the lap back and take a win. Or is this untrue? Judging by your comments, it must be. I have never said anything about Perkins being the only driver to complete this feat, nor have I said anything about the Sierra Fiasco. So where this comes into my quoting, I have no idea. Must have something to do with you having a bee in your bonnet, with me agreeing with Bushbasher. I have mearly pointed out, Perkins did take a race win, after being a lap down at the beginning of the race.

when johnson retired during his first stint in 1980, brock was back on the lead lap. brock did not pass johnson under racing or yellow flag conditions. he gained the lap back because of a retirement you said you agreed with bushbasher. that is fine, but by quoting my post to agree with him, you are disagreeing with me. if there is a bee in my bonnet, then that is because someone bought into a discussion, with little knowledge or by disregarding most of the previous posts. my facts were right. bushbasher's were wrong. if you or others do not know facts, maybe you should not post. if you disagree with one line, then maybe you should read the rest of the thread before posting. it ain't that hard to check. i guess it is just easier to start arguments based on fiction until you bought into it with selective quoting, that still is not right, this part of the discussion seemed to be finished and we were back on topic Last edited by gtxb67; 05-01-2012 at 07:44 AM. |
