More lockable storage which is a big deal for a Ute. These utes use the space under the front bonnet, which will be a good spot to lock up tools or shopping

Just imagine how many vehicles are in the world at present running on petrol & diesel, now imagine how much strain that is going to put on the power supply grid when all the vehicles are electric. You think fuel savings is going to be cheap, don't think so as electricity is going to be like we now pay for petroleum products, Big $$$ it is happening now. They will have to build considerably new power networks around the world to cope with demand. In my opinion private transport is going to be very dear in the future for the average person. Cheers. |

A lot of countries are reducing electricity consumption as things are becoming more efficient. The UK has been adding 5,000 EVs a month to its national fleet but overall electricity consumption still fell 2% there last year.
As long as countries keep building capacity as they are then I can see it being managed. Still could be some headaches. |

So much MAGA!
These all look great, and to put 'great' in perspective look at the styling on the BMW i3 that the crazy Euros dreamed up as what the electric future should look like (hahaha). Americans have gone "it will be big and square with bling and we will not surrender our love of massive pick ups and wagons" and lo it became word. Skateboard chassis are cool too! So simple.

And to take Kmav's point a bit further, imagine running a farm - no shortage of sunlight, solar charging, you get to run an enormous RHD US pick up off this, no diesel bill for the business, huge torque, few moving parts - you get the idea

All good, but for the 500hp diesel tractor and the 400hp diesel truck to get you produce off farm.

Going off grid all comes at a cost and depending on your location, if you want 100% reliability on electricity Solar off grid does not really meet that demand. Cheers. |

However its too expensive now for most situations to go off the grid. But solar/batteries prices will come down and if electricity goes up it will reach a tipping point. Many remote locations have decided to go off the grid as the cost to connect power lines was more then solar / batteries. |

Just imagine towing a 4Tonne battery, just to keep the 500hp tractor going for a 14hr day. (Where oh, where is the charge point in a 2000Hc paddock, when you need it).

Yeah it’s right by the diesel pump. Why are people so against innovation? Why do you act like it needs to fulfill extreme situations in order for it to work for everybody else’s? It’s not perfection overnight vs nothing. We run a diesel fuel cell on the back of a flat bed Dodge 4500 to fuel up the diesel equipment on the job site. The same thing can happen with electricity. We will probably combine technologies for a while, but eventually electric will take over. Stop being scared.

A lot of innovation will occur in the mining industry which will then spread to other sectors.
Removing and dealing with emissions from equipment in underground mines is hugely expensive. I know BHP have started using 79 series utes converted to electric and can imagine more work being done in the space. |

Imagine for a moment, a 500hp tractor working a 14hr day, where is the battery tech to allow it to get going the next day. I know of farms here in Aust with 25,000AC paddocks. And where is the battery tech, which allows for that 14hr day in the first place.

Hideous! But I'd buy the SUV when it comes out if their Battery tech is remotely as good as Teslas.

I'm picturing it changing gradually. Maybe the farm ute is electric, has solar panels as part of its roof, recharges as you work the diesel tractor and plugs into the battery array at the machinery shed that was charged during the working day, after it is done. For the diesel tractor, you have algae photobioreactors on site that generate some of your own diesel, eventually more, until you reach what Henry Ford wanted the Model T to do for agricultural families in the US with ethanol - grow your own fuel. This way, two less outgoings, keep more of your income, grow more wealth from your endeavours. Keep saving, keep original equipment in good order, give any debt the flick over time, generate real wealth via investing to reduce input costs.
No reason why 1940's tech (diesel tractor) and 1910's tech (electric drivetrain) can't co-exist in the 21st century and both use renewable power - if you have the planning and foresight. Here's the world's most awesome tractor again, btw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6w-ZnkeXI7c Edit: one of the amazing things about this rig is it's cost of $12K to build to the farmer. Genius. How many times would it have paid itself off?!

I have no doubt that you are right though and we will continue to see a rise in electricity prices and will make sense for some to go off-grid. |

When privatisation came in for electricity they said prices will gradually fall due to competition, well we all know what really happened and is still happening, the complete opposite. When fossil fuels dwindle you watch the price of electricity skyrocket as governments will tax you to the hilt. Going off grid to solar & battery is no guarantee of reliability of your electricity needs. |
