I have used it several times after hours and it flows well, but I guess we have to remember that traffic flow was probably a little different 40 years ago when this thing was first started, should have been 3 lanes each way as a minimum

How is it that they assumed there wouldn't be a bulk of traffic trying to move from the new freeway to Eastlink?

They could, at least, provide a very long merging lane for these movements to removing the merging traffic away from the through traffic.

Idiots.

The garages along Moorooduc Rd, even thru Frankston are going to see a big drop in business you would think especially on week ends....

Geelong residents were ripped off.

The Geelong ring road is a disgusting piece of work.

How did they build it for almost half price?

Spray seal is the cheapest, highest failure rate surface available.

They started repairing it the week after it was laid.

Stone chips on the body and windscreen of almost every car that has travelled on the aweful Geelong bypass, not to mention the surface noise in the cabin of the car.

Imagine being a poor resident living nearby with that noise.

Dunno bout you, but I'll take a bit of road noise over being stuck on Latrobe Terrace for hours going from one end of town to another. But you are right in the sense the surfacing method was hopeless, they've just repaired a stretch near Ballarat Road. Again. I remember making the mistake of taking my old AU for a spin on it after it first opened back in 09, every stone that hit my car sent a shudder through me, and wasn't happy when I saw all the chips...

Hot mix is quieter but the rough surface is much better when it is raining.

I agree that they have taken low cost options (remember the opening of the first two stages was delayed to let the weather warm up because of the seal being used?).

Still, better to have what we have than not.

You're right there, I drove on it yesterday, it wasn't too good at all. Also got a couple of small chips on the windscreen thanks to it. Maybe I'm wrong but it also seems narrower than other freeways. A goat track compared to other freeways, and especially UK motorways.

Especially the bridges over the Moorabool and Barwon Rivers. The shoulders will not safely accommodate bicycles so these are not permitted south of Ballarat Rd. The intention was bikes would use dedicated bike tracks and despite bike trails for the full length of the ring road being intended, there is a gap between Church St and Barrabool Rd, Vicroads will leave it to the developers of the adjacent and to pay for the bike tracks. The developer of the land at Fyansford has gone broke, so who knows when you will able to ride the ring road efficiently.

I drove Peninsula Link for myself yesterday, works great in light traffic. Single lane egress from Eastlink southbound and single lane access to Eastlink northboud is a recipe for a traffic bank up. Did they learn nothing from the redesign (at great cost) they had to make to the Calder/Tullamaarine interchange and the Bolte/Westgate interchange.

A very wealthy mate of mine has a saying, "Expensive today, cheap tomorrow". Spend the money once and spend it right.

They still need to do something about the end of the existing Frankston Freeway at Springvale Rd, in Chelsea Heights...one day...?

If you have not seen this, it is Hitler's parody on the Peninsula Link freeway:

I notice LPG prices are cheapest where the freeway has bypassed them.....must be a struggle when your restricted to local sales with far fewer day trippers to the beaches.
