Echo other comments - Make it breath first before opening up the engine. I wonder if you get some bits from FTG Salvage.
Run it on PULP and see if that makes a difference. Cheap mod really. I seem to remember the comp ratio on this engine being a little low (8.0's??)and it got raised over the next few years - can anyone correct me? Could that be fixed with some different pistons? |

Re: auto. Which I assume.
Commodore autos will always beat Falcon autos (bar 6spd BF) off the line. That's because Commodores have a better first gear ratio.

I have the same problem, my V8 NC Fairlane takes an average of 10.3 seconds to get to 100. The best I ever got was 9.7 but that was slightly downhill with a tail wind. Appart from being slow it runs really well and the economy's alright for a V8 (10.5L/100km on the highway). It also lights up the rears with no trouble ;) Can't figure out why it's so slow.

Yeah, common problem with the factory EB V8's - Mine's slow as a wet week too. As suggested above, heads, intake, throttle body, MAF updated to ELII/AU spec and you're doing well.
Beyond that, alloys and a cam will wake them right up. 347stroker's 302ci, stock-bottom-end-ed XH manual ran a soft 14.3 using all factory parts (T3 cam, Explorer manifold, bigger throttle body and MAf, etc etc)...

I'd put it down to the diff ratio. Fords as stated aren't renouned to jump off the line.

Diff gears such as mine will improve your off-the-line acceleration, but you'll lose some when it comes to overtaking at highway speeds. -Dave- |
