We don't have to be like the LS1 guys. If we stick to our guns, they may re-classify their terms. Unopened has to mean what it says. I'm thinking the engine is either stock, stock with bolt ons, worked or forced induced.

Every LS1 powered vechile that i have seen that has run a decent number un-opened and opened have been stripped out. They even go to the extent of taking the boot mat and all the door trims ect................... : I would be interested to see a BOSS powered vechile with all the mods, stripped like the LS1 clowns. :

Okay - i've been thinking about this a little...
It would be a classification of production sedan 1/4 mile racing (made up crap title by me). This could be 'unopened' ie no valve springs from either side of the creek. Improved Production Sedan means only items which improve reliability in chasing higher speeds and faster times. This could be 'opened' and replaced/upgraded items listed (eg valve springs only). If you have to break a gasket seal or similar (eg, head porting, cam shafts, crank, pistons) then it would be Modified Production Sedan. By production I mean full interior trim - all headlights, utes with tailgates. But allows for 'street legal' drag tyres. But how do you police it? eh who knows. I guess it is about being honest with yourself...

Howdy all. Just had a qiuck read. Havent been on much of late.
On the valve springs I would say yes we should be able to change them it is nothing different to the ls1. I would if I had the $$$$$$$$$ And the BA springs do go soft. Ohh and the utes to have C.V joints in the tail shaft. Been there broke that...... Cheers....Kev

Hey Guys,
Yeah, unfortunately i killed the auto that night. The first pass i recorded my fastest 60ft which was a 1.80, and went 8.000 to the half, which is two tenths clear my fastest ever sprint to the half. I thought this may be a good run. When i shifted third, the car didn't buck or shake like it normally does, just felt slow, but i saw 7000 on the tach, so i lifted and grabbed 4th. went across the line 4000rpm 12.74 at 100. Im not opening the engine just yet, as this has been my fastest run to the half, and i still reckon low 12's are there for the taking. I will never open this engine, as I have 2 engines sitting waiting which have been mildy breathed on. My goal is to get hold of a six speed auto super pursuit with its sweet 1st gear and see what that has unopened. If any boss will run an uncracked 11, i reckon the auto super pursuit will get there first. I agree with kev - the valve springs are fairly ordinary, but they are in the engine, so ill use em. NOTE - there is a rumor flying around that both myself and SLY XR8 have aftermarket gearboxes in our cars - this is simply not the case. I have a trans brake c10 sitting on the floor of my engine building room, and it will be called out to battle, but not just yet. Sly and myself are running stock standard transmissions with dominator highstalls and SCT capa edit. |

I think it will be interesting to see what an unmodified one with the 6sp auto will do on the 1/4. |

Hey man, hows things??
I'll be doing it the same way last time - one mod at a time, also as dollars permit. buying a pursuit is another thing entirely, i'd have to sell my blue beast, and it wouldn't be an easy car to part with, its had a lot of $$$ spent on it, and its been good to me. |

I look forward to taking out my beasty soon to have a crack in the "unopened Boss" class!!! With these new mods carried out by Chris she is one killer ride, and am very pleased at what he has achieved with my car.
The bolt ons are tastefull and the tune is great on the road, so i cant wait to run some official times. Note: The g-tech times i have run have gone from a best of 14.5 in stock form to 13.4. So cant wait to hit the track and see what happens. Allen

Personally, a lot of guys claim certain records illegitimately in my view... When people say they have an unopened LS1 that does an 11 second pass... we're not talking stock. The car would have gone a Jenny Craig diet, prolly shedding around 150kg, tuned for race fuel, headlight removed... you get my drift... not road registerable.
If its for fun, then great... but if someone wants to use their time to claim a record.. maybe the purchase of an LS1 Elfin is the ultimate next step? Happens in both camps but the LS1 scene is fiercely competitive... and its something I'm glad to steer clear of.

Begging your pardon but unopened Boss' don't just slip under the radar. That's substantially faster (mph) than the unopened record, apparently owned by GM Motorsport at 119mph, according to Chris on this forum... You don't just magically generate that kind of mph out of the blue... not when you have a car that starts off weighing 1900kgs from the factory.
With all due respect to dynosteve, reputations mean nothing to me in the tuning industry. I've heard so much BS from the LS1 camp... people knowingly lie and their mates back them up... not that that is the case here!

Ahh that makes some sense... cheeky. ;)
Nathan Higgins rand a mid-10 with the same mph, full weight. That's why I question the figures.

hhhmmmm i seem to think the MPH is quite high for an unopened motor, being a 260 or a 290. The MPH is an indication of outright HP. I would think that at 124mph the car would be in the 10's.......
I think Chris is only doing 107-108mph in his ute!!!
