I find it really disturbing that you are asking total strangers on the net for advice on something that is the most important decision of your life. I believe that you are taking the or you have no one to get advice from. Forgive me if I'm wrong.

I say treat the situation like getting a tattoo... Find something you like, when you think the time is right to make it permanent, wait 12 months and if you still want it, do it...

Proposal idea that'll score you a ute load of points with her and her friends, family and everyone else who sees. Well it worked for me anyway. Took her horse riding for half a day, picnic on the beach, then a flight in a tigermoth down the coast. had a friend of hers write "lisa will you marry me?" in massive writing in the sand at Point Roadnight. Could see it from a mile away. Pilot did a big wing over and she saw it, pulled the ring out of my pocket and hey presto. Married now. Best of luck dude, whatever you decide to do, set the bar high so she's the envy of all of her friends.
Good Luck! |

Wicked stuff Schmidty. My other half wouldn't get in a plane like that & i think asking the pilot of a 747 to circle the beach is out of the question

Some advice a great friend gave me was, A lot changes in the 12-18 month period though. I'd wait 6 months but as you've said YOU are ready & you just need some ideas I wont contaminate your thread any longer. Scan some junk mail with her & first assess what she likes in a ring. A lot of girls like white gold these days. They'll all like diamonds if bought a decent one. Try not to be obvious when fishing for preferences. general ideas are fine but it'd be best to let everyone know where you are for some specific ideas. Harbor cruises in Sydney perhaps. Melbourne, go to the top of the rialto tower (much better in summer, 6 months time), have something to eat/drink, enjoy the view and if your nerves are ok, tell her how you feel about her & reveal the ring + question. |

he has a point though. If it gives any kind of hint of trouble. TRADE IN and REFUND. Seriously though She might have other ideas or might not like the "C" (commitment) word. But if you feel right about it. Whats the worst that can happen. You get told NO. but have a quiet think about it by yourself and put the love emmotion aside and see what you come up with. Women are interesting creatures. |

Howdy - I'm qualified to response to this forum now with 2 years experience under my belt and 5 years total on the clock.
Some of the other responses have been pearlers (eb 5 litre take a bow) and there is still the issue of asking people on ford forum for advice about something so personal but hey - free country. I figured out Mrs Ringo was a keeper very early on but kept it to myself and just kept looking for confirmation of what I was feeling. I did that for about 12-18 months asking myself if this indeed was who I wanted to be with till I get old. I thought about it from so many different angles and always ended up in the same place. After only a year I would be cautious only because in a relationship you have you ups and your downs and its in the downs when you get to see who you really with. When they are stressed, angry, worried, drunk, happy, sad, depressed, sorry, stupid, wrong, bitc8hing about your family/friends, ask yourself is this the person I want: to be stuck on a desert island with, in the trenches fighting alongside, sitting next to your hospital bed, cheering you from the sidelines, mortgage yourself to your eyeballs with (mortgages are 25-30 years) the mother of your kids, Your choosing your team mate for life. Mrs Ringo and I really do think about it that way. We are team mates in the game of life. We make decisions as a team, celebrate as a team, think not of ourselves but of the team and sometimes you have to take one for the team because the siren calling the end of the game is a long way off and you want to win 2.5 years in total until I popped the question and then another 16 months till we got hitched. She frustrates me, annoys me , amazes me and impresses me and regularly reminds me of why being with her was a great decision and she will be a brilliant mother when the time comes. All this and i still wanted her even though she still came with a MIL from Hell....it was a package deal |
