It's ok if it's a pig, I kinda want it to be. One day I might swap an auto in her but probably not. I just don't want it to be too obnoxious or attention grabbing, would like to fly below the radar most of the time!

If it's a XB Hardtop, then it's gotta be a tough Clevo all the way mate....

I take it that you are in Brisbane mate ?..... if so then i can let you know that my brother has his own workshop in Capalaba. He has built plenty of good Clevo's over the last 20 odd years. His own drive is a 351 powered XY, fairly mild & very reliable. I think it runs the 1/4 in the mid 13's, ok for street trim on pump fuel.

Him being a Ford fan & former hardtop owner, i'm sure that he would be more than happy to give you some helpfull advice.

With a 20K budget, i'd say you'd be able to screw together a very nice high output & reliable stroked clevo with all the good bolt on gear. ( 3V heads etc )

Feel free to PM me if you want any more info on my brothers contact details.

Cheers, Gavin.

XB Hardtop? Easy, I would use a 351 Cleveland considering that's one of the engines they came with. I would give it a loud exhaust system too

Kasse headed 385 of enormous displacement. 385's should have been in there in first place.

Seriously? If I had an XB hardtop and $20,000 to spend on the engine/box?
Easy.

A brand new (second hand probably) XR6T engine and six speed auto.

Everyone opens the bonnet of old Falcons and "expects" to naturally see a V8...it's become, well, boring is the only word I suppose.

Do something different.

That's exactly what I was thinking, the cars a factory 6 so would be truer to build, the xg parts should have it sit straight in there! Only problem is I/c w/a would fix that though, f6 motors are cheap as chips comparatively. They are quiet, more fuel efficient and easier on boxes than a torquey v8 (sort of) would fit under the bonnet etc etc etc.
But they don't sound like a v8...
Thats about the only con, check this out if it doesn't work type gmkilr into YouTube http://m.youtube.com/index?desktop_u...?v=DIuE_PS5Ipw

I wouldnt put a 6 cylinder that wants to be a V8, that sounds like a bunch of chooks in a chookpen ,with my wifes hairdryer bolted to it , and dentist gas....anywhere near an XB Coupe.

He does have a point though, I researched atomic performance as a mate has a stupid fast one but they are pricey too. But awesome.
But yeah chooks in a chookpen is a pretty damn good way to put it, but if the chooks were screaming falcons...(see what I did there)
I'm honestly split 25% angry clevo 25% rumbling big block 25% boosted sb v8 and 25% i6 bells and whistles for something different.
I think I need 4 coupes to do it all to! One day I will, but not right now... :(

Now why the hell didn't I think of that?? The best Aussie six ever built.
I'd leave off the turbo and put on a kit I once saw by, I think, Hemi Performance in Adelaide, which was a set of throttle bodies for fuel injection that at first glance looked pretty much like the triple Webers of the storming E49 hemi.

An easy 350hp and something to really talk about when you open the bonnet at a show and make some eyes pop instead of having to say "Yeah, it's got a V8...just like all the others you see every day...

Or, to really annoy, how about a wild SR20DET four cylinder with twin turbos or something...? Start with a late model Black Top putting out 245hp and go from there with the mods to what the budget will allow...

I'll run the gauntlet and say a new Boss 335 with intercooler and Stage 4 power up.
IMO, you would need all the rubber you can get under the rear of the hard top..

For something different again, a 5.0 Boss Coyote with 440-500 hp on tap, that engine
in a hard top would be incredibly light and improve handling out of sight...

This is the go, be an innovator not an imitator. A 1000hp turbo 6 (if you have 20K for a donk I am assuming there is some dough for other mods) with big brakes and ace running gear would be an awesome vehicle. I would even badge it as a Falcon 500.

Anything with 600+ cubes for sure.
I like the turbo 6 ideas though. A 335 would be awesome, you'd have to notch the towers but who cares its only metal and you won't get another chance at this kind of project! You could be the first to shove a 335 into a coupe!

Don't count on a turbo 6 being nicer to boxes.

If the cars a factory 6 then go down that route, good cheap reliable horsepower.
