Neither one of these cars are designed with a chassis to harness that amount power thus the figures, honesty though an xr8 with a tune alone would be quicker and faster in every way Id imagine than what those figures convey.

I think that XR8 was at the Ford day in Geelong had some decent rubber on it and massive brake's.
Times are pathetic

ZF would need some work to handle that sort of power I would think, hence the manual. 20k plus seems ridiculous when a simple tune would yield better results. The chassis just isn't up to numbers that the horsepower suggests.
Mate of mine was horrified when his 17 grand walkinshaw supercharged VE SSV was a bonnet length quicker down the quarter mile than my 280rwkw XR6 Turbo. It just doesn't translate and becomes a bit of a waste of money IMO. Those numbers are disgracefull!! |

Wasn't one of the modified FPV's ( a GTF I believe) that was featured in Hot Tuner one year able to crack 3.8s for 0-100 ? Obviously they are the only ones who can get the rear to hook up.

So the XR8 took a whopping 4m longer to stop from 100km/h, even with upgraded brakes. What does that tell you, tyres were obviously not up to scratch.
As per usual, the straight line numbers for both cars are a joke. A factory manual XR8 will pull a 12 with its eyes closed. Next time Herrod provides a press car for a head to head, put the bastard on semi slicks and make sure it's automatic. The GTS is obviously the better car if we're comparing stock vs stock- and you're paying for it. But once you break the rules and modify them, the XR8 should have won this easily. I'm not necessarily referring to raw numbers, but as a street car package dollar for dollar. You could do the intercooler, trans, coilovers, bushes, sway bars, brakes (and a few other driveline components) and have enough money left over to buy a new XR6 as a daily. Yet here we are obsessing over a handful of irrelevant numbers, as always. |

Well now I'm stumped. Did it mention if they were both new or could the XR8's tyres have been more worn than those on the GTS? 13 feet is a very significant margin. Something doesn't add up to me. I might buy the issue and have a read.

Good point, might just read it in the store. Would love to know their reasoning for the XR8's 13 second pass, entire run done sideways? 295 is more than enough rubber to pull a decent time out of a manual.

Tuned it, got 13.02 with 375rwkw, couldn't put the power down and was axle tramping. There is something seriously wrong with both of these cars times.

Just goes to show that you get to a certain point and power starts to become irrelevant.
I mean really, 500kws, $30k in mods and how much quicker than stock?

They are both showing ordinary trap speed.
Why? I get the ordinary et, gts mid 12 is pretty poor really, but i do get the limitations of tyres and test driver In this result. dont explain the trap speeds both cars managed.

A quick google of the KPM website, 2011 and here we go;
"On a 29 deg ambient temperature day David put this car through 2 sets of 12 continuous runs of the quarter mile. This added to 24 x 0-400 meter runs on a drag strip with track temperature of 36 deg Celsius! With constant runs of 12.2 all day our last several runs gave us our best results of a 12.0 quarter mile. Our 0-100 KPH time was 4.2 secs and braking distance from 100-0 kph was 36 meters. Power output 436 rwkw/ 500 plus Fwkw." Further in the article it states they ran an 11.14 at 127mph after the above test. |

When the scud was strong, it had circa 450rwkw, ran 128 all day every day crossing the beam against the limiter in 4th gear, 7000rpm, 4.11 diff gears, 6 speed manual.
Forget the et, but trap speeds around this mark would have been expected, cirtainly in the 125 vicinity, or around 10kmph up on where the test cars actually ran. I'm really quite puzzled by the results.

117 mph trap speed is not commensurate with that power level, even if it was driven with the handbrake on..... Figures must have been printed up wrong. |

go back over the years and although Herrod cars have been big on engine power,,they have never been quick on the strip.,,i remember being disappointed on several occasions when reading the times in different magazines.

Bought the magazine today! Don't really know why as Motor have never rated a falcon. Anyway like the rest of you was shocked with the times for the Herrod XR8 especially when I compared it to some numbers in the "Boss 5.0 1/4 mile times thread" and then I remembered this thread and thought I would drop in for a read. It's been an interesting one too that I thourghly enjoyed I think KPM would be the go if I choose to modifie mine down the track. Something I found interesting was some members manual cars have run as quick as 11.5 ET but obviously it also dosent list conditions, Tyers, Mods, HP etc.

Auto Vs Manual comparison will always leave people questioning the variables.
No true street rubber is going to help these cars (specially the manual) with this much grunt show there true potential. Going to race for a quarter mile ET, use a drag radial it would also be the safer thing to do.

That's got to be the biggest pile of fabricated bs I have read. My ba xr8 with a cammed 260 with 255rwkw went 13.29 at 108mph. What incompetent driver did they have steering these cars. And I'm no drag racer.
