When I was teaching out at Campbelltown in the middle 80's (Primary school) someone came into the car park and stole a rear exhaust of a teachers car.

A few thoughts....
Maybe it's not a student? Could be another teacher that has a beef against you and always parks near you. Pay a responsible student leader to watch your car before and after school. Come to school in the morning a bit later or leave a little earlier at the end of the day, if the mirrors arent touched, you've narrowed the time frame down when its occurring and would be easier to plan the next stage to catch them red-handed. As there are other teachers who are regularly affected, could be a case for a request to the Dept to install a camera for the whole car park. But I doubt you would want to wait 5 years for that to be approved...

Clarkey117, is your car parked where kids walk? Id try moving it so they have to purposely go to your car.
Ive met Clarkey117 and he gave me the keys to his car and i drove off, but i returned them, if anyone hurts Clarkey117 i would say they are the problem, very likable person. If i get a day off one day ill grab a bag of donuts and do a bit of a sting operation There is a thread on here about when i caught a kid stealing my chrome valve caps. |

I'd go for the hidden camera, but i wouldn't tell anyone incase there are issues with camera surveilance at schools.
Once you have the proof, tell the kid to stop. Delete the footage, and again tell no-one. No need to tell the kid how you saw them, just tell them you saw. If anyone ever asks, deny, deny, deny! Make them prove it, which they wont be able to do because you've deleted the footage and used anonymous details on Ford Forums .... or have you! ..... |

Silver nitrate...best idea ever, especially when you can easily find out who it was later on...and they'd sure be wondering why thier fingers were going black...

You could always put one of those car alarms on it that goes off if you touch any part of the car. "Warning, Step away from the car" lol.

Personally i would opt for a touch sensitive alarm, they can give off a warnin buzzer for a light touch or something heavier will go off. will scare the **** out of whoever touches ur mirror, and hopefully itll make someone notice whos actually doin it

You're right to worry. I recall when I was at HS, back when KB/C lasers were brand new, one of the teachers had a Ghia and you would assume it was her pride and joy too. Kids trashed it, and I mean trashed it.
I don't really know why either. She was a cool teacher but maybe that was the issue. You don't have to be a hard arsed teacher to be targeted. If it's PS, then it could just be a kid that really likes the car and that's their way of playing. Stupid, but some PS kids can be like that but at least it's not malicious. Doesn't really help though. edit: forgot some apostrophes. |

Great advice coming in guys I appreciate it. A touch sensitive alarm sounds good. It is someone pretty patient as they used to get my last car on occasion but i didn't care about that shipbox as much as I do for Froggy. I checked last week here and there and i have narrowed it down to between lunch and the end of the day so i will stake it out next time i have a free last period instead of doing marking or prep - i have to get my priorities right! |

I wouldn't really recommend a sensitive car alarm. All it takes is a bird or strong wind and off goes the alarm. So it wouldn't serve it's intended purpose of catching some sticky fingers.

fold the whole mirrors in when you park it there in the morning. then fold them out when you get back, the kids will probably think someone has beat them too it & leave them alone. Do this for a while & the kids will probably forget about it because of their low attention span.
Whatever you do dont let the kids know that it annoys you because that will encourage them to do it & it will also put ideas into the heads of the kids that didnt think of it. It will also cost nothing, so give it a shot & if it doesnt work try something else |

A friend wants to buy this wireless set to watch his car
http://www.uniden.com.au/australia/p_uws1117_index.asp RRP $399, google found it selling for around $300. He said the marketing was a bit misleading, I don't know the specifics. |

If you figure out roughly what time their doing it, get in the car and just bob down low so they cant see you, then when they touch the mirrors jump up and scare the **** outa them

When washing the XR6 the other day, I noticed greasy finger prints on the spoiler and the roof... suss, as no one touches my car except for me and my girlfriend. And someone made a good point to touch it twice.
