The bum will drop out of the Audi too when not the new model any more Tex. Would be an incredibly, incredibly, incredibly brave human to be owning one a couple of years out of warranty.

You can add to that the annoying fact we're the only country that treats our drivers like children and won't let them drive brand new LHD cars freely on our roads. That, of course, would have destroyed the local industry years ago... |

13 months old, would not start. Roadside assistance jump started it, stated it was dead battery. I assumed a battery is not covered under warranty, so i range battery stores, they started quoting "interesting" prices and claiming battery changes on this were hard? None had stock anyways. So i called dealership, they quoted $1211! After i started yelling at them.........they advised its covered under warranty! However i needed to have them "diagnose" the problem first. Monday morning 10 am the vehicle was hooked up to diagnostics (so they said). 3 hours later they called me to confirm that it was a dead battery. I said ok, can i pick the car up?........NO batteries in stock. Order from Jeep H.O, and i was lucky cause H.O actually had 1 in stock! Following day at 10 am the battery arrived..........it was ready by 2pm. Apparently the new diesel model's battery is a bugger to change. Hope this clarifies my situation

Those prices are just for a mirror are retarded....all up around $7500 for labour and parts and here I can barely charge $5500 to paint a doublestory weatherboard that takes a month and a half.....
Might start trying to produce same quality jeep parts for a fraction of the cost, might actually make some money off disgruntled Jeep owners.

most head lights now fit the bulb in the reflector at an angle. the early days of it was done buy the glass lense.
old H4 style bulb have 3 legs on a round circle base. for left hand drive the 3 slots are cut in the reflector at different spot. as the bulb light goes to the top and then is reflected forward at an angle down you turn the bulb the opposite direction to where you want it to light. I have come across bulb that the base wasn't fixed, these are used to adjust the beam flat on 4X4 and trucks and whats called a traffic light with a strong low beam. throw heaps of these in the bin as they didn't meet ADR at the time. trouble with most imported cars these days they don't use standard H1-H4 bulbs.

I'll agree the spares are dear, but i notice most of the gc bashing coming from those who don't have one.
35000ks on my my14 diesel, not one issue (and driven hard and tows often).more than can be said for the focus, fg, thai and Spanish d40s I've owned new or under new car warranty. Resale? Should have bought a diesel. I've been offered a whole $5k less than i paid for my limited on a new limited Blackhawk, i generally trade every 12 months and despite this being the most I've ever spent on a car it's the least I'll ever have lost. What a joke falcon guys (of which I've owned and still own 1 or 2)bagging the resale of anything. I bought an ex govt 12 month old g6 at the auctions for $18k ($40k+ new at the time )! This when fgs had only been around for 2 years! Spares wont ever worry me, it's insured and will be gone before the warranty is. Most improved car in the world in the last 10 years (as it had to be). /jeep convert.

And as someone in the industry, exploder parts were just as bad in the day.
Try $1800 for a side cargo glass in 2004, but yeah its mostly just a jeep thing. Good luck with mustang spares when they get here.

If you want some expensive prices for parts, go and buy yourself a header. It makes the prices quotes in this thread seem like chicken feed. It is easy to throw $10000+ at one each season.

Go to your local auto electrician, new battery would cost you $300 tops for something good such as Century, and thats the Australian made ones too.

I love my new Jeep. No regrets getting rid of the FG and buying a Jeep.
Don't care how expensive parts are as insurance will cover any damage and if I am at fault I have no issues paying the $500 excess.

My old mans 2013 Jeep grand Cherokee has been great, a few issues all covered and fixed under warranty.
That is a crazy price for a mirror.. I remember when my uncle hit a roo in his discovery, around $3000 for a headlight. Difference is his car was 120k compared to the Jeep at ~70k.. you can buy a few mirrors for $50,000. I wonder if the resale will hold better than the previous models seeing as its so popular and such a good car?

I have no doubt that some parts are overpriced, however most parts and accessories can be sourced from the US for half the prices locally. I found this with all the genuine Mopar accessories that I have bought.

You got next day service on a battery, (not 2 days) which normally wouldn't be covered by any car company under warranty for a car 13 months old. you should be happy The Battery on the Jeep I think is located under the drivers seat? possibly a little harder to change than normal, but in the whole scheme of things not difficult.. In future a supercharge MF66 720CCA looks to be the battery which you could get for $160-$200 find out where your local dealer is in advance

There are worse cars than Jeep for parts, try owning a BMW out of warranty.
I see some great prices for 2nd hand X5's but you really need to factor in Maintenance costs with them. Yes the local fords and Holden's are much cheaper and part of the reason I dive one. everything on our Prado costs no less than twice what the Ford does. But lets not get carried away I'm pretty sure those prices quoted by the OP were what the insurance company had to pay. Just like $1200 for a battery change it was done under warranty FFS
