Theoretically do it like this: Body: Single, Extra, Dual Exterior Level: XL, XLT, Wildtrack Interior Level: XL, XLT, Wildtrack Drivetrain: 2.0 Single Turbo, 2.0 Bi-Turbo, V6D Colour: All Ranger Colours available Being able to order any combination of this, under the Ranger Custom sub brand would be a great option. A V6D Extra Cab, with Wildtrak Exterior and XLT Interior in Sedona Orange would be a no brainer for me... Obviously a hell of alot of work for Ford to bother but cool to think about IMHO

Well, in Thailand, where our Rangers are built, they do offer Single Cab Style-side and Cab-chassis: https://www.ford.co.th/en/showroom/f...tion-ranger/xl They also offer a Super Cab: https://www.ford.co.th/en/showroom/f...ranger/xl-plus So, they are available. Just need Ford Oz to take their blinkers off and look around at what's selling in our market, then request some of these from the factory and see how quick they sell.

Sounds good, but Ford are not even representing Transit on their website. Transit Custom but not full size Transit.

At this point, we also need to highlight how poor Ford's Australian website is.

I have said for years now, there is probably a market for a basic 2 door flat tray ute.Something about the size of the 80s era utes.I’m sure a lot of people would like a smaller ute with maybe 4 cyl engine 100 or so kw and 7-8 l/100 economy. Not everyone wants or needs something that weighs over 2t and is near on 6 mtrs long with a tray about 1.5 mtrs

I have wondered why there isn't a small ute ... my first generation i30 diesel ... with the back chopped off and a tray there instead ... ie single cab, lightweight but useful ute

I guess there was no reason for it back then when there was so many competitors with the cheap end of the market covered, then everyone got out of it. Now there's basically one choice - povvo spec Hilux in manual with unleaded engine. However, this is now above $30K, there is no Ranger equivalent, it was killed off with PXII. I guess now something like a Proton Jumbuck makes sense https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...12756242/?Cr=0 https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...-AD-20970092/? I was wondering what the base model Hilux price is now; last time I looked, three or four years ago, they were about $24K plus on-road. Five or six years ago the Mitsubishi dealer in Ballarat had some new base model Tritons for - I think it was - $15K on the road ...

She's $32K DA now for the povvo spec 5sp manual workmate with mighty 2.7L 2TR unleaded engine. Now makes me wonder if this is actually inflation, ie - is $24K 3 years ago now $32K in todays money and inflation is worse than the 8% they're talking about? |

Still wondering what happened to all those people who said they were looking forward to cheaper cars/utes once the local industry ended and tarrifs were gone.
Where art thou? XR6 ute was about that much wasn't it?

Mitsubishi's website is absolute trash and asks you to go to 'local dealer' for a quote - but yet they ask for your location for pricing, but don't give you pricing - GAGF.
But anyway doing a bit of quick searching, looks like unleaded 4x2 Triton 2WD is $30K - without a tray https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...20929390/?Cr=0 So basically more than the equivalent Hilux by the time you include the tray and it has the old boat anchor 4G64 engine, making 94KW/194nm - pass. That is only 2KW more but less torque than what my Mazda Bravo made, and its nearly 20 years old. Its down like 30KW on the Hilux. LDV Deliver 9 Cab Chassis - less than the single cab Ranger the OP listed for a bigger and more capable vehicle - 2400kg payload: https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/det...20715125/?Cr=0 About $20K cheaper than the Transit cab chassis too. If diesel stays at a 50 cent premium over petrol a 5.0 Mustang ute would probably be cheaper to run than V6 Wildtrak.
And it’s got 2 doors. |

Its still a good 30 cent gap, where is the point that the USDM spec 2.3L Ecoboost Ranger makes sense from a running cost perspective over the diesels? Or will we see a hybrid unleaded version with an Atkinson cycle engine ala Toyota? Given NZs recent clamp down on diesel surely they're observing. |

It will be interesting to see how the Ecoboost Amarok goes. Although it's hobbled by only being offered in the range topping variant.

Slightly o/t, I was thinking about global sales of Ranger and what will dictate certain powertrain changes.
For example, Hilux sells 2.5 times greater in Thailand as it does here and Ranger sells about twice as many in Thailand as Aust...so if Thailand suddenly went all green demanding EV's-only ( I know this would be unlikely) would that accelerate powertrain changes here or is Australia's sales numbers enough such that Ford would build individual powertrains. I don't think the V6 diesel is offered in Thailand The US builds it's own Ranger so they are self-determined and petrol-centric. |

I too would buy a V6 Single Cab tray back.
I am currently toying with a V6 XLT Cab Chassis. 65d/a with no tray. I had a bi turbo Sport which i hated then said Id take a Raptor which I also didnt love. Currently just driving my Ram everywhere which is painful.....

When it comes to a work ute used for work only. Low riders make more sense if you were doing what i used to have to do and park in underground car parks and have height restrictions. So when i had an L300 van, that with roof racks was 1.9m, the low rider ranger i had was 1.8m with roof racks, the triton i had was again 1.9 m with roof racks. So some really old buildings had 1.8m height bars so pretty much a no go for all 3 of those cars or even a standard hi rider ute or 4x4 with no roof racks. The place i most frequently parked (for free too, its who you know not what you know) was 2.1m. I could get the van in with a ladder on the roof fine, same with the triton, the ranger i could just scrape in with ladders double stacked on the roof.

Single cab chassis 4x4 have always been expensive unfortunately. You can by the current 4x2 with a 4x2 "off road pack", still with a custom tray it isn't going to be cheap. Reason being, these days low rider and manual do not exist. Same story for Isuzu now too, you have to buy auto and also high ride.
