I can see from the responses that the definition of heavy metal is wide and varied so will reply with a mixed bunch

Manowar, Fighting The World

Iron Maiden, Fear Of The Dark

Metallica, Fade To Black

Sepultura, The Hunt

White Zobie, Supercharger Heaven

Lots of non-80s metal listed ...

I got into metal big time because of Twisted Sister's "Stay Hungry" album.

I only went off the thread title so I missed the 80-s part.

Had I seen it I would have said the same thing as you. Same album. Still is an awesome album. Must try to get the CD version. Followed this up with Deep Purple -Perfect Strangers and Autographs Turn up the radio.

Anything AC/DC (but more 70s than 80s) but Rocker (Live), Let There be Rock and Whole Lotta Rosie are too hard to split as my favourites. Bon was great.

Iron Maiden - Number of the Beast.

Twisted Sister??? I always thought they were "Glam Rock", not heavy metal - and for those who want to respond to this, well, I'm not gonna take it!

Well done JC...

The Let there be rock video clip is the best ever....

Did you know that the parts of that filmclip that are filmed in a studio, are those of the actual studio...

Thanks Vanda and Young...

Is that the clip that's in the church as well - ie the original? Bon makes a good priest! LOL.

Agreed, I still whip out the vinyl every now again! I don't have it on CD either, but I think it is something I should get as well. From TS I got into Ozzy ("Blizzard of Oz" and "Diary of a Madman"), then Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, etc.

Speaking of AC/DC was speaking to a bloke tonight who went to school with Bon Scott at St Albans Tech. He said they used to get around in old blue convi with AC/DC handbrushed on the side. He said back then they would play socials and were really crap. No one thought they would get big!! Angus went to St Albans High, small world.

Not that there is anything wrong with AC/DC, in fact they are a really great band, but are they a heavy metal band? I would have said that they were a rock band.

Anyway, I don't think you can go past the original creators of Heavy Metal... Black Sabbath. Before Sabbath, there was darkness :(

Black Sabbath - Paranoid
Black Sabbath - Hole in the sky
Black Sabbath - Symptom of the universe

While not my absolute favourite, it's a pretty good song.

Metallica - For whom the bell tolls.
