Why does 34 psi seem impossible to you guys ? There's plenty of stock motors on YouTube pumping that sort of boost pressure there's an fj20 and a 1/2jzs doing that
I think vl god runs something in the 40 psi range |

It's not the 34 psi bit I have a problem with, I have a good idea how much money it costs to run a reliable 10 second quarter in a car, pretty sure that time and the trap speed (+130 mph) necessitates a parachute, a reliable drive line, well set up suspension and really good rubber.... |

A mate of mine runs a yellow VL turbo (is there any other color???) He drives it to the track, runs 9.8's and drives it home. On mickey Thompson street E/T's Radials. No problems and no dramma's. Today's 8's are yesterdays 10's. A 10 Second car is not "that fast" anymore. |

a 10-sec car is still fast, but i think these days less and less people are impressed.
you can run just as good a number if not better on a MT ET Street as you can on a slick. i have talked to alot of Radial racers and alot of them 60' better than us and we use a full slick. |

Turbo engines can vary there power levels by boost or how the pedal is planted...
It's NOT like the engine is running full power all the time... So a 700 h.p or so engine can last a long time.. Engines with high power / boost levels generally run lower compression which helps durability ... They develop sooo much mid range RPM torque that on the street high RPM is NOT required... There's plenty of Mustangs in U.S with over 100,000 MILES on engine before a turbo is fitted and still keep going if tuned and serviced right... As said hook up is the key to good times....

To further this point there a quite a few VL's that have run 9's in full street trim with leather interiors and 19/20 inch rims with street tyres. Rajabs harlequin Calais comes to mind ran a 9.8 in that setup like 6 or 7 years ago Most of the time reliability is all in tune big boost high HP doesnt kill motors.... Here's another manual vl running stock bottom end and stock r33 5spd 10.45 @134mph 385rwkw on pump fuel dont say stock motors arent any good http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GvXESxmzXks |

A guy at my work also has a vl it's a streeter and has gone 10.03 at Calder with boost i'n the 30 somethings i can't remember as I'm not into commodores there's a vid on full boost of it. I'll ask Monday. I can't see why people find it so hard to believe. And running 10 s i'n a street car isn't nothing it's very stout, it's just that it's more common now days

Its not impossible , specially if it came from Matouks stables ...
He probably means it can handle 34psi all day @ the track no problems , which is spot on . I know of plenty of turbo cars running 30+psi @ the track all day . Without issue .

A lot of guys putting built motors into their Skylines these days are running with a series 2 RB30 block, as their RB25s are only good for about 400rwhp before they're on borrowed time. Forged RB30 short block with RB25 head and GT35 turbo will make between 500-550rwhp with bucketloads of torque and gets a Skyline into the 10s easily. VL weighs about the same, so I don't see why it seems so hard to fathom. Not a cheap exercise, but if old mate's bought himself a 10 second car for $15k, he's done alright. Of course, this being a Ford forum and all, not most people's cup of tea.

I suppose it's like our efi 5.0 blocks. Some people can run 500 at the crank for ever, but others run less power and split the block in no time.
I'm no expert on Skylines (or anything for that matter) but after spending a lot of time discussing a build for a mate with a very reputable engine builder over here, he left me under the impression that if you go over 400rwhp, then you're pushing your luck.

Mates VL Street car. No gauges on the bonnet inter-cooler doesn't bulge out the front bumper under bonnet looks totally stock including low mount XR6 turbo, turbo (that's right he needed the most important part of the motor to come from a FORD) come to think of it the motor came from Nissan.
r33 skyline 5 speed borg warner lsd. just drops the exhaust and runs 10s all day long http://youtu.be/IZL_5vm-260 |
