hoon drivers are typically regarded as the biggest contributor to the road toll as they are the easiest to target
that's the main reason there for the latest hoon laws, and easy target than majority of average moms and dads.

If 5km/h doubles the risk of crashing, then we all should be crashing all the time.

If this is a 1 in a million chance of crashing at 5kmh, then doubling the risk for every 5 km/h mean at 100km/h there is something like a 1 in 2 chance you will crash.

Anyone seen that show Kalgoorlie Cops.
Watching it the other day a female office basically says she hates hoons.
They are driving on a country road at night and see a few nice cars driving the other way. She gets on the radio and says something like
"Can you send back up, we have a few hoon V8's we want to pull over"
They chuck a Uturn and pull over the last car which happens to be a HSV ute.
They do the usual and check license and check the car out for defects.
Turns out this guy has done nothing wrong and they let him continue on his way.

When this cop gets back into the car she says "Well I am a bit disappointed we couldn't get him for anything"

WTF! She is disappointed that someone was obeying all laws?
I only she couldn't fine him for having a V8 Holden!! Then she would be happy that she has stopped 'hooning'

That is the attitude of many people out there have. You own a performance car, you are a hoon.

Those poor experts Ben, all they had to do was to come to you and you could have put em straight with some dodgy arithmetic and assumptions.

Firstly the 5km/h faster doubles your risk is for speeds in the area of 50-60km/h and doesnt extend all the way down to walking speeds(did you just pluck your 1 in a million chance at 5km/h out of thin air?) and based on your model there would be a 1 in 2million chance of having a collision while stationary? .

At 100kmh, its 10km/h over doubles your risk, but its not another doubling for 20km/h but 6 times the risk at 20km/h and 18 times at 30km/h over.

I would expect responsible drivers to cause more accidents than hoons - there are a lot more 'responsible' drivers on the road...

Yep. When I am stopped at the lights there is a 1 in 2 million chance you will be driving behind me and will run into the back of me because you were to busy watching your speedo like a hawk that you forgot to look out the windscreen where the danger actually is.
