i read the article in the cars guide yesterday.

i love the fuel stats. 15L/100km. does it come in a dual fuel option? could do with the rebate

i dont think id buy one if i had the cash....they look like an awesome machine, but the cost, the size would be impracticle. I'd rather a F6

It's exciting like most imported cars that aren't offered by the Australian market - thus said once Holden is supplying them in bouts to Australia they will become known and almost common, thus reducing the coolness appeal to the Hummer.

Arent the H3's like a smaller version of a H1@2?

I left my holiday before they came out in the states, so not sure. I hated H2's when i first had to drive em over there, but i got used to them fast. Because they are so expensive to put on a transport truck due to insurance issues (they are bloody heavy, and take up 2-3 car spaces on a truck) , so we got paid to drive em 4 hours up to new york. You certainly feel invincible, thats for sure! I certainly dont think we need anything H2 sized over here! H2's arent as hardy as the H1's either!

Hummer's pedigree is ideally suited to Australia's diverse and challenging off-road environments," said Holden's executive director of sales and marketing Alan Batey.

Bully woolies. Anybody that knows anything about off road adventures will tell you that Hummers are too wide. Obviuosly Alan Batey knows nothing about off roading. :

Hummer was originally AMC, which was then bought out by GM.
Hummer is its own brand within GM.

The H2's and H3's are a joke though. Nothing like the H1. H2 is built on the Suburban chassis and the H3 is built on the Blazer/Jimmy chassis.
Its all marketing to the yuppies back home that want a Hummer in their driveway but can't afford the real one, and who will never even see a gravel road.

If you want something to go off roading in, don't bother with the H2 or H3.
If you want to cruise the strip with "Dem's 26's", by all means!

That's my terrible way of making a thread title- using the 'umm' as an alliteration. Apologies to all, hope no harm was done.

H3s have more offroad capability than anything of similar class.
Pajero, Territory, Prado, Kluger, Pathfinder.

Read up about its departure and arrival angles, wading depth etc nothing comes close.

Thanks martin, i knew i read somewhere that they were only teeeny versions of hummers :p

And yeah, H2's are shitty for offroading, they are the rich peoples version of the H1, which is still the best for that cross country sort of driving ;)

As if anyone is going to buy a H3 for off-roading. I'd put some massive chromes on it and cruise around if I had the money.

Sure it may look good on paper, its going to be a brand new model so it better stand out from the others in its class! Those in its class are already 2 or so years into their platforms and due for a re-design in another year.

I think you'll be surprised at how not impressive it is off road. I can't stress ebough how much these are designed for the soccer mom or city high roller who wants the Hummer tag. Your Aussie Market 4WD's are far more impressive on and off road then any H3 will ever be in factory form.

Unless GM changes the H3 for the Aussie off roader of course... but I don't think they would do that.

The last true off road vehicle in Australia today is the Land Cruiser Troopy. Everything else has too many compromises to be a real off road vehicle. I suspect the GM hummer will also have too many compromises, hell, just look at the jeep, what great off roader (NOT!)

Had a good look at the H3 at the melbourne fishing camping and 4wd show on the weekend.

Couldnt believe how small it is! If anyone buys 1, it's purely for **** factor. Was sitting in the drivers seat of 1 on the holden stand, mate in passenger seat and 2 holden girls in the back. Saying to my mate how it just feels cheap, small and tacky, but the chicks would love it! Holden chicks both said yep, chicks love it! So i guess for the single man who's looking for that extra something to entice the ladies, its probably got more pulling power that a territory! ha.

Explains why I had to watch the Kelly brothers drive to Bathurst in a Hummer on the pre shows. I feel used.

Ill have to go order one, get my fur coat, fur hat, gold encrusted cane, gold chains with oversized gold 'P' and purple pants and go cruisin pimp style.

Wonder if these suckers come with the 'tyre pressure monitoring/inflate/deflate' system that its bigger brothers have, or weather that thing in the middle of the wheels is just a cr@ppy hup cap moulding.
No doubt you will see heaps of them in AutoSalon shows, wearing 24s, custom bloody everything, etc.

Hummer is a brand of GM, just like Holden is... so I wouldn't think the 'Hummer' would be sold under the Holden badge. The worst thing that would happen would be that they were sold as the Holden H3, and just drop the Hummer name.

After having a good look at it at the motor show tonight, all I can say is that the build quality inside and out is just plain RUBBISH. It was truly dismal. They could take lessons from the Koreans and that is saying something.

i found the interior quite good actually - better than i expected (I expected it to be crap) and i found it better than the Captiva too. I seriously doubt it will have Holden badges on it. GM should know (and i am betting they do) they are not just selling the product, but also the brand. Needs a nice diesel engine, not a 5 cyl petrol - incidentally not many people have worked this out, but one of the reasons it gets worse fuel economy than otherwise could, might be, because of the all-terrain tyres (makes a noticable difference to economy when tested) Prado, LC100s, Nissans etc seem to have road biased tyres, and so would get away with fuel consumption tests with the tyres fitted as standard. It is a shame the automatics are let down with the old GM TH-4L60E. Should have a 6 auto and 6 manual.
