Nah I didn't think about that at all...thanks, potentially saved me some embarrassment there..LOL

Crap, so the only way is going to be local then....fantastic!

OK I was thinking about it last night, and got a little confused.

Since they are electric, there is no little stick to worry about, and how does LHD or RHD make a difference when you could just adjust the mirror anyway?

Our passenger side would be better with a concave mirror, instead of a flat one. Also if you haven't noticed, the passenger mirror is more angled toward the passenger window

I think it would be worth the risk of buying one from US and giving it a go.
The only thing to watch out for is that some mirrors aren't designed to be pulled apart

haha its shocking hey.

a starter for xd-xf costs what, 60 bucks??

a mate at work has an audi and he was up for 1000 bucks for a starter too!

i thought they all do the same thing, whats with the price difference!

haha! now that i think of it, ford can be bad too, when i got my T5 the shifter went missing for it and we rang up ford for a quote, like 300 bucks! this was even more expensive than holden's quote!

Never ever buy spare parts from manufacturers. Ford want $260 for their AU mirrors, which i thought was day light robbery. $1200 is a joke.

Your grandad's old right? He probably never checks uses his mirrors anyway! He's probably more concerned with having everything on his car neat and perfect. In which case, try this page for some UK version mirrors. You should probably just confirm with the seller that they are RHD market edition though.

It makes no difference whether it's electric or manual, convex glass or flat. It's the whole mirror housing that is angled differently. Best way to understand it is sit in passenger side of a Falcon from AU onwards and look at the passenger side mirror. To make it usable you will have to adjust it to the max.

So is this a standard that came in? Or has it always been that way?

I know you say AU onwards, but why? My EL's look exactly the same.

And then I have to find out if the Neons have different housings, this is going to be fun!

you will find its not just Chrysler . any american OE part is expensive in OZ
try a cougar headlamp for $1500
or the 1/4 panel glass for a cougar $3500
tailgate glass is $3000
taurus headlamps are $900
probe headlamps just over $2000
probe bonnet $2000
efi windsor parts inc. starters as they are all imported
to replace all the glass in a explorer is over $10,000 !!
and some of the F'truck parts are even worse.
personally i would not buy an American car , build quality is crap and parts are just a rip off.

Had a look around the yard at work today, found that all falcon from EA onwards, l/h mirror is angled closer to the window than right, a Pulsar and Lancer we have are both like Falcon. Focus & Fiesta L & R are both angled the same. I found if you stand at the front of the car and looked at each mirror alternating quickly to each side you will pick up the difference.

I don't have any actual examples handy but in the past I have compared price parts off same model but different manufaturer cars ie Toyota Lexcen and Holden Commodore or Nissan Ute and Falcon XF. There was no hard and fast rule as to which brand or part was cheaper, you had to shop between the two manufacturers to get the best deal on the parts. A Lexcen bonnet might cost $1000 and a Commodore $1200 but a Lexcen guard might cost $350 and a Commodore $250. And a left hand guard can be a totally different price to a right hand guard!

It is still the same today with Toyota and Lexus, they share some parts, even have the same part # but the Lexus one will always be much dearer. If you are ever buying Lexus parts ask the parts guy to check if there is a Toyota alternative available.

As for Ford spare parts, a 6cyl BA/BF bonnet is ~$430 and an XR8/GT bonnet is ~$1800 - big difference hey! To be fair to Ford I suppose the volume of 6cyl bonnets made is a lot greater than the V8 ones therefore keeping the price down. I think another reason for the large price difference is Ford trying to discourage people from putting the XR8 bonnets on their XR6s.
