Our G6E goes pretty well on the highway...we regularly get an average of down around the 7.5 to 8.5 ltr/100km on a long trip. I was staggered when we first bought it.
To put it all in perspective, our factory-fresh 1982 Toyota Celica with a 2ltr and five speed manual uses way more fuel than our G6E. When we had the Landcruiser (before the G6E) if we were going on a trip down to Bundy or down to Rocky and weren't buying anything big, we'd take the Celica to save a bit of fuel. It's the other way around now... |

my best driving north smoothly up hume hwy from on cruise100/110 summer time with ac on au s2 xr6 760 k`s to 60 litres, some time later after a tune some friction proofing and grouse conditions on a short run i`ve seen 930 on the dte, i doubt it would have made it, but i could see 800 driving total economy run grouse conditions.

well mate it is starting to look a bit average now.......I was as happy as buggery with 700 k's but I'm a bit disappointed now after hearing of others getting far more but there will be more long trips on my own where I can "sneak" around a bit with maybe the odd overinflated tyre or four.......maybe the mythical 750 to the tank is within my grasp

nah! mate....B.A. sedan, had some blades in the back but no weight attached, maybe 20 kilo if that, on my own (delivery) no wife or baggage had to go up to reinstall some specialised cutting equipment I reckon I could do far better than that, I wasn't trying for good economy and did see 160 when passing the road trains a couple of times (yeah I know, quick ring a current affair)......I'll give myself a smack later but if I ease off the loud peddle a bit and put a bit more pressure in the tyres I reckon I can get up jeez I remember those days......work six 12 hour days, sleep all sunday......cheap fuel, no traffic, work everywhere, plenty of money..... but not sure if I'd like to return to them we get a bit "softer" as the years roll past

You have to tell us HOW many litres you use for the km you have done. Km on a tank means absolutely NOTHING!!
By the way, best I have done in anything is in a 2007 Hyundai 2.0 manual Elantra. Did 930km GPS verified sitting on 110 to 120 the whole way from Sydney to Geelong. Was 5.2 litres per hundred I think it was. Used 98 octane, no cruise control and no accelerating to keep my speed up hills. Cruise is a killer, this car on the same trip drops 200km a tank would you believe! |

Poppa, I know that run pretty well and the figures you got sound real good.
From what I’ve read, I would have to agree about upping the tyre pressures to say around the 36-38 psi range, someone from a tyre mob would give you a better idea. Here’s something I use for running cheaper http://www.bom.gov.au/marine/wind.shtml That info helps somewhat with planning a run, especially when towing. |

thanks mate.....good info in there......the trip is a regular to me as well, this was only the second time I had to go up for work though, may become a regular work trip though
before then it's always been with a van or camper trailer on the back for pleasure heading to the Alice or Darwin pleasure is always far different from work.........she's a bit undulating as you know so I was rather chuffed when I spied 700 on one tank (I have been down to 200 with the van on but we wont mention that) I normally run about 35 - 38 when towing but with the suspension playing up it was too noisy so I dropped the pressures for comfort sake after monday (and the consequent repairs) I shall up the pressures again I have issued myself a bit of a challenge (sad isn't it) to beat the 700 and after reading the replies in here I reckon it can be done, thats running it down to around 1/8th of a tank of fuel left (thats as far as I'm game to go)

Dont compare your sedan to the utes, utes have a bigger fuel tank, thats why the number of Ls would be better.
My terry (2010 SYII 4Spd) with 2 adults 2 kids, box trailer, bikes enough stuff for about a year 95-105kmh with cruise = 680kms to a tank. 75L so thats 640km with 40kms on the DTE at fill up. Only done a couple of long trips in it but its about the same. So your fuel tank is like 10% smaller than mine tho. I think the utes are 75l too. |

Longest trip ive done in the wagon so far was down the coast, up Maquarie pass, back down to Kiama then back home through the Royal National park, so a fair amount of twisties and non gramps driving.
Filled up, 50L went in, 435kms done, 11.49 to the hundred. (8L left, fuel light would have come on but my fuel sender is cactus ) Best i ever i returned was on a freeway/urban trip. 488km done, 51L went in, 10.45L to the hundred. This was before the sender died so the light came on and needle was very very close to the edge of the red on the guage. So im pretty happy with that Wonder how good it is under normal driving on the open road, i aim for 700 to the tank with a roof rack! (or am i dreaming?) haha.

Best I've done is 625kms out of 70L of LPG in the EL. Adelaide to Mildura and half way back again before having to switch over to fuel.
If you want to go diesel, I managed 4.9L/100kms in our 2.0L Pug 307 on a 100km economy run one day...

When I top the dub up to the brim of the filler neck (standard tank) I can get around 640k's to the tank highway driving... (probably a tad more, but I haven't been game to run her dry yet). combined driving sees me with a usage of between 10.5 and 14 odd l/100km... highway only it dips to low to mid 9's... Pretty good for a 41 year old 250 2v I reckon.
That being said, it does have an XF weber, T5 and 2.92:1 rear end, so it is somewhat more economical on the highway than standard fettle. |

My crow cam stage 2 and exhausted and head size CAI 1998 AU Falcon Forte sedan lowered 70mm averaged about 1000 to a 68 litre tank with my friend and I in the car every time we went from adelaide to the gold coast in 2001 and 2002
best result 1175 km six trips overall worst it got was 955 km. no cruise control, speedo at 105 and taking foot off to coast into each town we reached. besides taking foot off, windows left up no A/C, drove for 22 hours straight to get to miami caravan park on the GC First stop for fuel was after going from virginia south Oz to cobar with 80 still on the DTE, refueled with three jerry cans then made it from there to G/C so one fuel stop. only stopped that one time, engine off for only 15 mins did that three times in three months one year alone. love to drive My AU1 XR6 VCT sedangets around 750 to 850, just CAI and exhaust Last edited by SVR73; 13-07-2012 at 09:12 PM. |

I regularly drive Doncaster (Eastern Melb suburb) to Gold Coast, via Hume-M7-Pacific Hwy. I have a Falcon BFII 2007 EGAS (factory LPG) wagon, stock standard with 200000kms on the clock. I always refuel only once along the route each way way, usually at Thornleigh (Northern suburb of Sydney).
Donc > Thornleigh is 885kms, and Thornleigh > Surfers Paradise is 832 kms. No problem whatsoever making the distances on a tank. I usually fill up with 90-95 litres (116l tanks in the wagons), and while i am a smooth driver, I do cruise at well over the speed limits and carry 3-400 kgs onboard. There is usually around a quarter tank left before refuelling. I would imagine that if i was prepared to run out of gas (no thanks), 1000kms/tank would be acheivable. If patient enough driving for economy at 90-95 kmh (again, no thanks, too long a trip), then 1150-1200kms would be entiely possible. Not related to topic, but with the now mid 50s cents/litre LPG prices, the TOTAL fuel price for the return trip is now around $200. You can keep your diesels.
