Any other car I would want under 250,000 kays. A Hyundai or a Commodore I wouldn't want more than 150,000 kays on it. And if it's a Camira you don't want more than a 100 kays on it |

I know its not a 2000 car or even a 90's car but my landcruser has don just under 1.5million kms, the only thing thats given us problems is the rust and fuel pump and thats over 22 years old, I'd gladly buy a 200,000 km+ car if its been looked after, me first ea had done 490,000.

i chose 200,000 plus but really depends on the condition. I drove an EA for about 2 years, i did about 150 km's a day in it, (for 2years straight, 5days a week) and it clocked over to 300,000 while i was driving it. Can only remember it breaking down once.

what about the embarrassment factor? If i took someone for a drive in my car and it had more than say 200,000km and they seen it, id be embarrassed. They would think "he buys a high miliage car to save a few bob?"
I went into a car dealer today and there was a good condition hsv V8 statesman with a really cheap price on the window. I stopped to look at it, the sales guy said top car for this price, I said "has it got a million km on it" he said um, arr, errr and then meekly admitted, its got 280,000km. I scoffed and laughed, it must be just about ready to give up the ghost. If you wanna keep the car for a few years, Id say 150,000 is the absolute limit. |

My Dad just drives his cars until they no longer work, he has a 03' Mazda 323 Astina he bought new, only serviced it at the 50,000km mark, and it now has 171,000kms on it with a cracked windscreen (Cracked from bottom right corner to middle) with no other services at all, just changes the tyres and tops up oil and coolant (doesn't drain, just tops up no oil filter change either).
So when i buy my first car, i'll be looking for service log book and lowish km. |

You have to look at a few things like how many owners it has had
and if it was used for short trips like to the shops and back is not so good or if it was country owned with long trips! also if its lived near the ocean , but one thing for sure they dont make cars like they used to!! It seems now its like a 10 year turn around on most things not only cars

Interesting read...
My falcon has 116,000 kms on it now, and I'm now thinking of keeping it for atleast for another 3 - 4 years. That would make it around 180,000 - 200,000 when I sell it. Seems like that is not too many kays to people these days. |

I think there's two reasons why they do klrs ...
Epa and fuel injection ... EPA to pass emissions clearances had to be tightened up.. Fuel injection, the whole ECU keeps engine in tune much better... Another is car sales / dealers, private can't wind the speedo's back like they used to... As klrs are recorded now... The gearing in transmissions is much better too... Thats four...

My first au had 450 000 on it when I got rid of it,and all it had done was the gas converted replaced at 250000 and regular servicing.
To the thread starter,if your too worried about what people think to ever buy a car with a few k's on it,why even ask the question????????

For me personally I'd be looking at getting rid of a car once it got anywhere over 200k.
BTW, are you XR6T_Gen who got banned from the LS1 forums by any chance? :hihi: |

Servicing and maintenance count for a lot – I’ve done 150,000ish kms from new with over 40 track days without any major problems in a Honda.
The key is really getting on top of wear and tear items at the start (quality lubricants, etc) before they become big problems. Do it yourself or get specialists (there are 2 that I use) who know about racing and respect their work to look after the car. Use someone you can trust or do it yourself. Much better than dealing with a worse case Dealerships where the message can get miscommunicated before an inexperienced **** who doesn’t care about their work is let loose on your wheels. It will pay off in the long run. High kilometers shouldn’t be a worry as long as you know how the car has been serviced/maintained and how it has been driven.

Kays has never worried me. If you generally look at a car most people airnt stupid.... ok have a look at the 100k car and then find a 300k car of the same model. Does it look maintained, no rattles etc goes ok? its either going to be ok or stuffed... and all the things that have worn out by the 200k stage have been replaced. Kays play a huge part in the price but you need to look at how much is this going to cost to fix? Case in example..... Bought the wife a 98 AU futura for $12G nearly 4 years ago 110k on the clock. Is a very nice car drives well as it should and still does now has 155k on it. I have a 99 AU Falcon Xcab 800K when I bought it in march 07 now has 818k cost me $1700. Original engine is still in the car but drives just as well. dont know the full history of the car but it was put on as a cab from new (has books) and was serviced til the book ran out. wether the motor has been freshened up I do not know. Just put in a Fairmont interior in it that I got from another forum member cheap.
So really what do you want out of your car? Buy a nice low kay car or buy an high kay car far cheaper and do some mods to it. either way its all win win as far as I am concerned.
