It was a niche car that garnered more sales than Chrysler anticipated when first released and has since settled. Hype costs money...ask GM-H how much 'hype' costs them each year. What did people expect of this car?

my point was where is the tv ad's now, the last advert if you could call it that was on top gear 2005/6.

You must not be looking very hard then, theres been a SRT and 300C ad with the V8 Supercars, besides they don't need to spend money on advertising it, just look at it? word of mouth is their advertising.

I've only seen one here in SA (a SRT-8 that is). Seen plenty of 300C's. I gathered the Ford equivalant is the Force 8 & 6, and HSV, the Grange. I haven't seen many of those models either.

They look to be quite a fast & unique car although if given the choice the new HSV Gange LS3 would be my choice in LWB performance.

I own both an SRT8 and a BA GT. The GT feels like a muscle car should, it's low, loud and anti social. It rocks and shakes at idle and launching properly can be real challenge. The SRT8 feels placid and tame, until you press the loud pedal. It takes off and just keeps on accelarating, it's just friggin awesome. I love the amount of torque this thing has. Hemi's rock.

I guess people prefer the local product when it comes to muscle cars as many buyers in that market have their allegiances to either red or blue and as such will choose either an FPV or HSV.

Another thing I also think is that the 300C generally suffers from the whole "bling" thing. A little bling is good but too many 300's are over the top.

I think your right Steve. I've never driven a SRT-8 so my lean towards the local product is that of familiarity and I guess a bit of local pride as well. I have no doubt they would be an excellent piece of kit.

The problem with the 300C is it gets the wrong attention ... a guy at work has one (lower on nice wheels and decent sounding exhaust) ... it's not an SRT8 ... but still has the 5.7L in it.

The problem he has is people keep scratching his car ... no matter where he parks it ... as they lean against it trying to look in through the dark tint. He can only really take it out on the weekend when he gets spare time ... his final words were .. "He really doesn't enjoy taking it out that often" due to inconsiderate people out there.

Shame really ... they are a nice vehicle.

Its obvious why, the car was made for americans not australians! great motor, terrible oversized body.. seeing them on the road they are the size of rolls royces, im sure they handle as bad as they look they would.

My boss has a black SRT8 and its smaller inside than a Falcon, it is styled to look big, it is definately long, but wide it isn't.

It looks nice, and goes hard, but at $75K I can think of much better cars to spend the money on. Its a lot to pay for a very tacky feeling car.

But it does look good (did I say that already? LOL)

Correct - the interior space is not what it could be:

There is 27mm less front head room and 11 mm less rear than the GT-p and 36 mm less rear headroom than the now defunct Fairlane.

There is also 22 mm less front legroom than a GT-p and 78 mm less than a Fairlane although there is 41 mm more rear leg room than a GT-p but 51 mm less than a Fairlane.

There is only 3 mm in it for front shoulder room compared to either Ford but 28 mm less rear shoulder room than the GT-p and 24 mm less than the Fairlane.

It perhaps adds credence to why it should be actually classified with the equivalent SWB models - the SRT8 is line ball for price with the GT-p but as the classification here is determined by actual wheelbase it is categorised with the Statesman and Fairlane - and it has a much longer wheelbase than either (despite being shorter overall) being 219 mm longer in the wheelbase than a GT-p, 129 mm more than the Fairlane and 119 mm more than a Caprice.

GM have been increasing their V8's capacities but no increase in specific power. Maybe they should take a leaf from Chrysler's book on how to work an ohv eight.

I've only seen a few of these SRT8's and they do have awesome presence for sure. You ask a valid question, they should be involved in more ongoing reviews/comparisons, but it seems they've been ignored as an alternative to the locals. For the price they're one of a very few good value performance cars.

They are a good car let down by the fact that they are built by Chrysler, as the Jeep / Chrysler dealership network is very poor in Australia...

The only other gripe i have with the car is the interior, when will americans learn about Human Interface Systems...

what about tuning are these limo`s able to have similar flash tunes to our local cars ?...........i had a gig on 300c forums a while ago and they did`nt seem to have much compared to red or blue teem in that respect.

Flash tunes are now available and getting some good results. There's heaps of go-fast goodies available for them both locally and from the US. The tricky bit as always is working your way through the hype and figuring out what's bs and what isn't.

Its super phat styling means the thick doors eat up that 20mm and another 50 on the indide. I have at in it a million times and it IS tighter with three adults across the back that the Falcon.

Even on your own you are constantly aware that the car is closing in on you.

I couldn't car less how far appart the mirrors are (put some caravan mirrors on the Caprice and it will become wider than a Hummer LOL!)
