I only did mine for a little extra noise, which it provided, and I'm happy with it. |

I could swear mines more responsive since doing this, but its been pretty warm lately and the AU likes it; everything just feels nicer. Well see how she goes when its colder.

Well I have just purchased an Acron Cold Air Box off Ebay for my AUII XR8, I intend on using a big pod filter inside it and venting the standard snorkle into it somehow too.
Not sure how to go about getting rid of the intake muffler thing, as I might need to replace the whole pipe to accomodate the Pod & Airbox anyway... In the mean time I might try this V8 juice lid idea... I'm not very handy with tools so might have to just pay someone to fit it all for me, hopefully I don't end up spending too much more than $5-600. The whole point of all this is purely for a better noise - I don't care about the performance much but I just couldn't stand to suck hot air... Once I've hooked it all up I'll let you know how it goes - there's not a lot of options for these cars as the standard set up is pretty good, so it will be interesting to see if it performs any better. |

Welcome to the forums :-) Keep us updated with that airbox you got off ebay. Wouldn't mind seeing how it goes / compares to some of the other expensive setup's (G&D) etc

Awesome! Thanks yeah I was looking for that thread!
I have put the V8 Juice lid in place of the intake muffler and only heard a difference in noise when giving it stick... But I'm terrified the lid will get sucked into my intake! What would happen then? I might put the muffer back on until I find a Tickford Wheel Cap to plug the hole or replace the whole pipe... |

I used a lid that plugged the hole from the 'outside' the lid fits over the 'neck' of the opening.

Bugger me, I didn't notice a bloody thing. No louder as far as I can tell, and definitely didn't seem to run any different. I just done it to get rid of the ugly lol

or do what I did, I have the cap of one of the misuss' hairspray cans on it, with a tiny screw to fill the hole, and a clamp to keep it on there, sprayed it black so it doesn't stick out, works a treat
But yeas, Peuty is right, better off to get a stainless intake made up ;)

No gain at all. It's purely for looks.

Please forgive the thread mining....Thought I'd add to this thread.
I removed the resonator from my 5.0 AU ute and did as featured above, Plugged the hole with a alloy Tickford centre cap. I soon grew tired of that because I have the stock 175kw 5.0 so I went in search of an alternative. I found a early E series 5.0 intake pipe that never had a resonator on it. It didn't have a hole for the sensor so I cut a hole in it and used a rubber grommet from the top radiator mount from a AU and the sensor fits in perfectly. Here is a pic of how it turned out (This pic was the trial fit before I cleaned it up to look nice). Extremely happy with how it turned out.
