Apparently not, there were reports that she had but the RCH says she is still alive.

The man is believed to be her father. :

i am still really struggling to believe this has happened.i heard it on the radio on the way home an hour ago and was very nearly crying as i thought of my 5 year old at home.apparently it relates to a custody battle. the cctv on the bridge only monitors not records from what i hear.

Copied from the latest update on news.com.au

Quote:
A 35-year-old Hawthorn man was arrested after security staff at the Commonwealth Law Courts noticed him standing in the foyer with two children.

He is believed to be the father of the girl in hospital.

Security staff noticed that the man was shaking like a leaf and staring with wild eyes. One described the man as catatonic.

They called police and several officers arrested the man, who offered no resistance.

At the time of his arrest, police had no indication that the man was connected to the West Gate Bridge incident.

The two children were taken into protective custody. Witnesses say one of the children was in nappies.

A white 2004 Toyota Land Cruiser vehicle was also parked near the court and was later removed by detectives.

A child booster seat was seen in the back seat along with children's toys and clothing. The vehicle has Victorian plates and had a parking ticket on the windscreen.

The man is believed to have had a Family Court matter in the Federal Magistrates Court yesterday.

I’d love to have a chat to this bloke, preferably on the top of the Westgate.

I can't believe no one saw this happening and pull over to try and do something to either stop it or hold the pig there till the cops arrived.

On the news they said he had family law court issues yesterday. What drives a person to do this is beyond me.

Whilst I am horrified at what has happened and cannot begin to fathom how anyone can do this, I actually feel some compassion for the person who has thrown this child from the bridge...

I look at it like this...35 yr old from Hawthorn, now thats a upper class suburb not known for drug addicts or people with low self esteem.....

What has happened to this person to turn them into something that every normal person would despise, how low is this persion in their life at the moment and what catalyst made for this idiotic decision.

I hope the little girl survives, and I hope the father gets the help he so desperately needs...

Have you ever driven on the Westgate Bridge at 9:15 AM? The four lanes of traffic were probably doing 70 k/ph. This goose probably just stopped his car and threw her out before anyone realised what he was up to. My guess is that anyone who saw this probably just thought that his car had broken down.

Exactly, I know the first thing that would pop into my head would definitely NOT be "OMG this bloke is about to drop a kid off the bridge".

Just because your from an upper class suburb, doesn't mean you cannot have low self esteem.

Regardless where he comes from, he chose to kill his own child obviously out of revenge to her mother. I don't feel sorry for him!

Trying to get back at the children's mother? Maybe she was crying in the car and he ran out of patience?

Doesn't matter now, he's done it. The only question left is what is the "justice" system going to do with him.
