We just bought C250 for the wife. The car is fantastic, but whole experience was just way better, all the way down to the massive bunch of flowers they delivered to the wife when they delivered the car to her. A small thing in the grand scheme of things but it works.
It must be a Merc thing. I bought a Merc for my wife over ten years ago, and the same things happened. Flowers, car delivered under spot lights in the centre of the dealership etc. Four Mercs later for her from the same salesman - now the Sales manager - and dealership, she will never go anywhere else.

This ad speaks volumes.

As mentioned many times over Merc will gain the respect of just about anyone who will see this ad, and the last thing on anyone's mind would be that MB have a strain of arrogance in them. That is well played on their part.

Secondly, this ad being from one of the most respected and prestige brands or marques from any industry, has shown Falcon in a much different light to it's actual competitor in that it (Falcon) is revered by MB. The funny thing is it took someone else's marketing department to provide Falcon with the best ad it could receive - in fairness, your best testimonials are when they're from a "competitor", and you just can't beat that. And if I were Ford I'd want to pay MB to do the same for the next 6 months - if that is even possible.

And thirdly. A new shade of green has been discovered, on the face of Holden, due to envy. It's called "Holden Goo-Bitter-Sour-Grape".

Cheers MB...

Notice how the other brands advertise themselves in the process while MB keeps it humble and worthy of respect...pure class!

I hope to win the lotto tomorrow so I can buy a C63 AMG and park it next my XR8! ;)

Very classy indeed.

Both companies have a history of having iconic cars. The Falcon nameplate has been running for 50 years, the SL nameplate has been running for 56(?) years.

The 300SL was introduced in 1953 and went into mass production in 1955...

Very classy.

What wasn't classy was Wheels making sure there was a Commodore on the cover of the Falcons 50th anniversary edition. Typical. I wonder how much Holden paid them for that, or did they provide the so called inside info to take the focus off Falcon.

Here's an example of Ford doing the same...

I thought it was a great gesture, no doubt wouldn't have been cheap, but I'm sure the marketing department would find it to be pocket money.

MB doesn't really have cars that rival those of our Aussie Falcon...so a mutual alliance along the lines???

Why is it that whenever the word Mercedes appears in this thread the font goes red?

A classy message from one classy manufacturer to another. I've always considered Ford and Merc to have a similar level of class, though Mercedes-Benz seems to have the reputation to match. This classiness is evident if you compare the smooth, conservative lines of the FG or a Merc sedan to the bloated, fat, bulging, overstated VE.

Let's also not forget the AU and CLS 'coincidence'.

Did you use the word 'Mercedes' in a search?
That's when the word turns red, to show you where the word appears in your search results.
