Lets try and keep it positive, plenty of nice FWD cars that handle just fine. AWD would ruin the car with extra weight.

Id love the green one but any colour would do. Wonder if Ford would show them at bathurst in some Aussie liveries like the did at Le Mans this year; that would be cool.

Face facts, FWD is a compromise

With AWD this thing would be complete and would live up to the heritage.

It will never be RWD, AWD is ok but this thing proves FWD can be just as fast if not faster so why bother?

If people want to tear up about FWD in these things then perhaps direct it towards the RS500; not the RS.

The focus is not an escort, people need to move past it.

If you watch some Utube stuff on this car I am sure you will be impressed. One such clip actually covers in great details the choice to stick with FWD. Combined with some turbo lag it actually works very well and the noise. Ford actually wanted the team to make it quieter but thankfully the noise remained untouched.

It’s a great car as it is so let’s concentrate on what is sensational news and not creating a debate.

IIRC there is even a "tube" that brings the induction noise into the cabin, pretty sure it was the RS

Great car, a few $ but so is an Sti or EVO, wish i could afford one but if im honest if i had that cash, it would be going on either a runout Boss or a new 5.0L as the smaller cars don't suit my needs really at all.

Can we get over the FWD thing and move on people. Fact is its a great car and some fortunate people are going to get their hands on them.

What a great alternative to a WRX or EVO. Would love to see one in local production car racing.

Hoping I can convince the wife to let me sell the Phantom and get one of these. A new house may stand in the way though:( I'm really hoping not. Now in a position to buy one, I didn't think they'd bring them out here. So excited about the prospect.

Yep, it's called the 'symposer'. Piece of piping that goes straight through the firewall into the cabin. Lets you hear more of that T5 growl

The official press release:

Ford Australia today delivered the news that performance car enthusiasts around the country have been waiting more than 12 months to hear – the highly acclaimed, high performance Focus RS is on its way to Australia.

Due to go on sale early in the fourth quarter in extremely limited numbers, the Focus RS is destined to be one of the most eagerly anticipated new models to land in Australia in years.

Only 315 examples will be available, which will ensure Focus RS ownership in Australia remains the exclusive domain of a truly select group of lucky customers.

"Customers, the motoring press, Ford enthusiasts and hot hatch fans have all been constantly asking us about Focus RS and when it might be coming to Australia, so we're very pleased and incredibly excited to be able to confirm for everyone today that it's on its way and will be here soon," Ford Australia President & CEO Marin Burela said.

"The buzz and excitement surrounding Focus RS has spread rapidly around the globe since it was introduced in Europe early last year, winning a host of motoring awards and receiving widespread critical acclaim for its outstanding combination of high-performance road car technology and every day Focus practicality.

"Now it is poised to conquer the Australia market, setting a new benchmark for hot hatch performance in this country and creating a whole new generation of performance car enthusiasts in the process."

The Focus RS will be offered in just one comprehensively-equipped specification level and limited to three exterior colours – Ultimate Green, the signature colour of the latest Focus RS; Performance Blue, the colour of the original Focus RS; and Frozen White, a classic RS colour.

Powered by a turbocharged Duratec RS 2.5-litre engine delivering 224 kW of power and peak torque of 440 Nm from just 2300 rpm, the RS is equipped with an arsenal of high-tech, high-performance components to match its exclusivity.

Focus RS is fitted with unique sports suspension, incorporating the patented Ford RevoKnuckle, along with a Quaife Automatic Torque Biasing Helical Limited Slip Differential, high-performance braking system and Tyre Deflation Detection System (DDS) for the 19-inch alloy wheels and bespoke Continental tyres.

In addition to the largest wheel/tyre combination ever fitted to a Focus, a host of unique Focus World Rally Car-inspired design elements contribute to the bold exterior of the RS, including:

* unique body panels
* flared wheel arches
* custom bonnet design with integrated twin louvres
* side skirts
* aggressive front and rear bumpers

In fact almost every body panel on the sleek three-door body has been revised or modified.

A twin-blade rear spoiler completes the exterior package, complementing the rear bumper venturi and front bumper splitter to deliver the necessary downforce and balance the overall aerodynamic profile of the vehicle.

Other exterior elements include automatic levelling xenon front headlights with washer system and rear parking sensors.

On the inside, Focus RS boasts Recaro sports seats in partial leather trim, dual zone climate control air conditioning, rain sensing windscreen wipers, auto-dimming rear vision mirror and an eight-speaker Sony audio system with six-disc CD player and USB input facility for iPod/MP3 player integration.

Bluetooth hands-free with Voice Control system is also part of the equipment package, along with the Ford Key-Free System incorporating keyless entry and keyless start via the start/stop button.
The Focus RS will be offered for sale with a Manufacturer's List Price of $59,990 when it arrives in Australia later this year.

The images released as part of the press release have been uploaded into the Gallery. They aren't full sized as I am currently on a slow connection.

Cheers

...and yet, still no cruise control.

Good luck keeping your licence if you do any highway driving. That's just silly.

Off topic.
If you cannot keep your car on/under the speed limit on the highway you have some issues. But yeah cruise would be a welcome addition to the entire focus range

224kw FRONT WHEEL DRIVE????? That's just appalling. I'll have golf R with ECU flash thanks. At least I know the all the power will get to the ground and won't be limited by some electronic gizmo not letting me fully unleash.

Not to mention if I hit my head on the dash in a golf I won't knock myself out like I would in a Focus with its rock hard plastics used, although the shoddy build quality might save me as the panel might move.

Never understood why people have gotten so excited over focus's on here, they are unreliable, poorly built cars. Sure the dynamics are ok But they can only be so Good and revo knuckle or not, 224kw is too much for a FWD!!!

Wonder if you could get the RS500 upgrade kit that you could order in Europe to take it to the RS500 level engine power.

Couple of things I am sick of hearing on this thread:

Cruise control (it doesn't need it)

FWD (drive it before you knock it)

At least a few of the Falcon boys are exciting to see a great hot hatch coming down under .

I have had a Focus and a Falcon, and the Falcon doesn't compare to the Focus at all...different in every way.

If I had 60k to buy a car would I choose the RS or a GT....I would buy the RS hands down

Agreed. Cruise Control is not needed. If you can't hold a constant speed, you shouldn't be driving. The RS has had rave reviews overseas. FWD or not, it out handles most of the cars on the road.

I love the fact that some would spend the equivalent money on a Golf R and then need to flash the ECU to get the car anywhere near the performance of the RS.

When it comes to bang for your buck, this car is a winner.
