Toyota Motor Company simply said to TMCA "If you want this car, it's a petrol V6 auto. If you don't want it, don't have it. So... what will it be?"

TMCA understands a lot of peoples comment regarding turbo diesel, but the vehicle is not produced as a turbo diesel anywhere in the world therefore it would only be developed for one small country.

That's the yanks for ya. They don't really get into diesels the same way Australians seem to be at this stage.

The American cars sold here, (Chrysler Jeep Dodge) all have diesels options in Australia. But in USA not one of them have diesel.

I don't get why Americans don't do diesel.
I have heard off many Americans they want diesels, but the car manufacturers just don't do it.

US Tier 2 Bin 5 emissions are tougher to meet than Euro 5, it's tougher on Nox emissions, which diesels are bad for. To meet those emissions, you need to put thousands of dollars of crap on each engine, which not only makes it cost more, but increases the fuel consumption of the diesel engine. Combine that with increased cost of diesel fuel, and it is not going to sell well. But I understand the Chrysler/Jeep is returning with a big offering of diesels in the US next year in the US.
Also, the FJ Cruiser is not that great. I love 4x4s, but the FJ just doesn't do it for me. I drove it for about 10 minutes then really badly wanted to take it back cos the seats were so uncomfortable, and it wasn't that great to drive. Blind spots were terrible. I would much prefer a Jeep Wrangler Rubicon. They come standard with Dana 44 axles front and rear, diff lock and a short axle ratio for rock crawling. Since you can also buy the Rubicon in Australia, it's definitely a no contest.

At least some car makers are remembering that they have to smack you in the eye and make you walk in off the road or chukc a u-turn to go back because you simply must check out that car in the window.
The car doesn't even have to be that "good" as a car, but it must catch the eye and get you in.

Toyota has done it with the FJ Cruiser, Chrysler did it with the 300C when it first came out and also the Crossfire, Jeep did it with the "old styled" Wrangler, and Mazda did it with the RX8 and MX5.

People might end up buying something else when they ge into the dealership...but the point is they you have got them in the doors...
