Most should do below 35%. Some make you sign an agreement

You can get 20% (or lower), but the warranty will only apply at that one store where it was fitted. I've had 35% and 20% but driven cars from 5% - 35%, and 20% is the way to go if you value your privacy.

I hear that on back doors and rear window you can have as dark as you want. 35% only applys to the front door windows. While the front can only have a strip across the top.
Is this all true? |

i had a bit of a laugh a week or two after i got my eb. I was outside looking at it thinking about what mods i was going to do. and thought i've always been meaning to get my other cars tinted in the past so i'll do that.
Then i realised it was already done lol and bloody dark to. Even with the sunroof backing slid back you can only just see in. If i had to get mine done i'd get side windows done the same and the back window and the top of the windscreen done darker. |

Here is the current standard for vehicles in Vic.
http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd.../0/VSI2web.pdf It basically states that any window used by the driver to obtain a view of the road or other road users must not go below 35% light transferrence. I wonder, by law, are you supposed to do a head check before changing lanes that requires you to look through the windows on the rear doors? If so, then by that the only windows on a wagon/SUV that you could go below 35% would be the cargo area side windows, as the rear window is also used to view other road users. I know I've never gone below 35% on any car I've owned and never found it to be lacking in its effectiveness. Edit.. Just found this with regard to drivers field of view, which makes the above statement mean you can go below 35% on the rear doors http://www.vicroads.vic.gov.au/NR/rd...07/0/VSI29.pdf

I decided on 20% all round (not windscreen ofcourse) It looks hot. Well can't seem to upload a dam pic.

This "fader" tint seems to be all the rage in Newcastle at the moment,
(p.s. if the car belongs to a FF member I hope you don't mind it being used as a sample!) Last edited by duaned; 18-09-2011 at 10:16 AM. |
