After having 500 mm (20 inches) of rain on Mt Tamborine over the past three days I relocated these poor buggers that were drowning in the flooded drain out front.

The Giant Earthworms of Tamborine Mountain, Digaster longmani are a different species from their Victorian counter-parts which grow to three metres (9 feet), however they occupy the same ecological role and probably share many characteristics. They grow to over one metre (3 feet) and can be the same circumference as a garden hose. The worms live in deep permanent burrows and are not seen, unless they come to the surface when their burrows are flooded by heavy rain.

Get other visitors as well when we get a lot of rain ...

Know it is bad up in QLD, but no matter where you are at the moment stay safe. Was nearly in 2 crashes yesterday due to people losing control on slippery roads, lucky I have my new car and stuff like ABS- in my old Suzuki, I would have been toast. Saw a lot of people fishtailing too, and not trying to at all. This isn't heavy rain, just consistent for days, think its throwing a lot of crap on the roads. Either way, even if you aren't underwater, watch out for everybody else on the road- would hate to see anybody hurt/have their cars damaged.

i was one of the ones nailed by the flood wters, knew not to drive through, had already spent a lot longer getting to work driving around flooded streets, but got to here and had no choice. traffic backed up behind me, zero visibility to attempt a u turn. plenty of thers were making it through fine. but was not my day.

Looks like it would have been a good excuse to not go to work to me.
