I dont understand how to fix the roof on the BA, how would they do that? You cant take it off =S

I'm pretty upset, my XR50 copped it in Keilor outside my wifes sisters place.

Tried to minimise damage by moving the car under a tree on the nature strip but the hailsones just ripped through the tree as if it wasnt there, covering the car with leaves and gumnuts. Also had a rug that I keep in the boot that I put over the roof, but the hailstones still managed to dint the roof through it. I think it did help though. Boot lid damaged and a few dints in the bonnet as well. The hailstorm seemed to last for quite awhile, seemed about 15-20 minutes, which didnt help at all.

All cars that I saw in the area got damaged, a few less than a month old.

Cant believe it, my car spends nearly all the time under cover at home or at work, and this happens.

It's just tack welded on in a hell of a lot of places...

Depending on the car and the value they can replace the roof section. I know I wouldnt like that, hopefully my roof is still OK for PDR.

We heard that it was bad out west, so we came home and put my BA in the shed! Took out the wifes VT instead. Just heavy rain in Doveton.

Oh no. I'm so sorry. You didn't have another car you could have taken? It was my wife that told me about the hailstones and that I should put my car away. I'd be devastated if that happened to my car. It's only a BA, but it's my baby!

Luckily I've never been driving when one of these storms have struck. The last two times I've been on nightshift and missed the whole thing!

The Fords body work seems thinner than the VT's, and much thinner compared to my old Land Cruiser. It's probably a much much safer car though.

How would they do PDR on the roof? Dont they have to get underneath it?

Drove down the calder shortly after, there was damaged cars all pulled over on the side and middle sections.

Mine are all too big for paintless dent removal. The roof ones are huge.

Got hit pretty hard in Eltham. Hail broke through the lazerlight roofing in the carport and damaged my XY and 370Z also damaged my Landcruiser my wifes Teritory, my brothers Teritory my Mums Mazda and my sons girlfriends Astra. All insurered except for the Astra.

Yeah PDR is big business now, I remember a few years ago after a big hailstorm the insurance companies brought over a heap of guys from the US who were an experts in it.

You'd be amazed at what they can fix...

PDR is paintless dint repair.

You do not want a hail damaged car repaired. Some repairers fill the holes with filler then repaint the car. So sometimes a repaired hail damaged car is filled with bog. (PDR is different) If you can push for a total loss with your insurance company.

Correction they are spot welded on, I've done a couple in my time they are actually a rather easy straight forward job nothing to really worry about..

The roof of a car is actually a spare part. You can buy from one from the Dealer. They don't really stock them because no one buys one unless your a panel beater. But it is an actual spare part.

Never seen hail storm like this one, couldn't believe it when it started happening, and never dreamt it would happen. Certainly woke me up from my slumber after the Xmas lunch.

Interesting...I was going to simply replace and respray the bonnet and boot lid, and the try for PDR on the roof and the odd couple of dents on the front/rear quarter panels.

Perhaps if im already getting the new parts sprayed a complete roof replacement is better?

Car is 3rd party, so i cant use insurance.

The bonnet and boot I'm not worried with, very easily replaced. It's the roof thats the concern. I'll defo be pushing for a writeoff.

I am much like you with your FG Silver, this one has been near on faultless (bar the trim issues).

Guy's, lets be very clear about something. It's not up to the repairer to write a car off, it's the insurance company who decides what happens. If they want to repair they will, if they want to total loss they will, don't go busting the balls of the repairer.

Basically, anyone with a car under $10,000, the chances are it will total loss. If it's not much more above that it'll probably total loss if the front and rear screens have holes in them allowing water in.

We use an absolute genius when it comes to PDR, there is not much he can't fix. If the boot and bonnet are too far gone they'll be replaced, along with front guards, we rarely replace a turret.

Depends on the insurance company assessors, if its AAMI from what I've heard they tend to try and repair them.

That is not true, I worked for AAMI in claims up until the start of the year. AAMI wrote most cars off at the start, It was towards the end, when repairer's were actually available when they started repairing cars. And they also brang PDR guys from interstate to help repair the cars.

Oh and the assessors do not work for AAMI they are employed by Suncorp.

Hmm AAMI were pretty good with my old man. He caused a 3 car pile up at a set of lights and had forgotten to pay the insurance bill but they decided to pay out anyway. go figure

Got off lightly here in Vermont Sth, Just heavy rain in bursts.

If we ever did cop the big stuff the Coupe is safe n' sound under a full tin roof, no laserlite for hailstones to crash through. The daily drive family fleet would be screwed!!

I feel sorry for anyone who copped damage.

i am in townsville right now, but talkin to the mrs, she is werribee , n she says good rain and windy but no hail. both real cars locked up tight but all the others were out so i happy we got none. sorry to hear about the others not so lucky.
