Acknowledge the lower registration cost for an EB, however, I want to stick with something in the 2010 to 2012 range.

I was considering an Eco Lpi, read good things about them. LPG is not an issue where I am.

However, I've heard from my mechanic, and others, that there is not as great a value in going LPG or diesel for that matter, like there used to be; unless like your mate it's a trade car.

Moved down here from NSW about a week ago today. We are actually in Mount Burr, but have been in Mount Gambier 95% of the time here. So much better than NSW

What's the difference from EB to Eco LPI? Is one ded gas and the other 4T petrol?

I'd go against your mechanic on this one and say LPG is worth it, but it's not worth getting a car converted to LPG anymore.

G6 Limiteds are a nice piece of kit. And that looks a good one as well.

EcCOLPi is another to consider ... but only doing less than 20,000km a year .... it may not be that viable though when you look at it ... since LPG prices has shot up yet again.

Yeah ... doing courier work ... and high kays ... ECOLPI for sure would be perfect when it comes to running costs.

As I wrote in another post, will be test driving the Mondeo Ecoboost as well to see what it's like. So, at the moment it is looking like being either one of those.

In bold, the higher price is for rego on a 6 cylinder in Queensland, whether it is LPG, Turbo or NA. The Ecoboost is the lower price for rego 4 cylinder in QLD. This is where I agree with the OP, where the cheaper rego in QLD. is an incentive to buy an ecoboost Falcon, rather than the other NA & ecolpi models.
For those who think the ecolpi is a more attractive package, you must obviously be from another state where the rego fees would be different.

By they way, wondering what you meant when you wrote you had this car as a demo? Were you working there at the time?

I wouldn't base my decision on which $25k car to buy due to saving $160 a year on rego!

And as I've already said, the few dollars you save on rego buying the turbo 4, you end up paying back as higher comprehensive insurance premiums (Ecoboost is more to insure than equivelant model I6)

No they loaned it to me as a demo.. They also have an FG Xr6 mkii in silver for the same price. I would go and see them as I think they are pretty keen to move on the cars. Have a look at their website... They have some super cheap G6 6 cylinder petrols as well.

Depends... Was the same price for me to insure... That's going to be different for everyone as theres no given formula on calculating insurance.

Thanks for the added information. Which Bryan Byrt is it? Searched their main website but can't find any Ecoboosts listed. I did locate what looks like the same car, so might have been listed incorrectly on their site, and the only location given is Brisbane.

Just went through the quote process online with Budget Direct: $535 for the Ford Falcon G6 Ecoboost, almost a $100 more for the XR6, and $5 more for the standard XT.

I just did a quick online quote for comprehensive insurance XT 6 vs XT 4 ecoboost and was quoted about $50 cheaper for the ecoboost.
Once again that was for my personal details, it would be different for others.
And IMHO, I would prefer a vehicle that is saving me money on annual bills for $25k. I could easily spend those savings else where.

Funny thing is possibly happening with this ecoboost.
The 6 cylinder owners are now realising what it was like, for how the V8 buyers felt when the XR6T Falcon was introduced.

Have you tried equivelant models. ie. XT Ecoboost compared to XT I6. Or G6 Ecoboost to G6 I6?

Just returned from test driving the Ford Falcon EcoBoost G6, and the Ford Mondeo EcoBoost.

Both are very good cars, and ultimately it is about personal taste I think. For me the Mondeo was more of a fun driving experience than the Ford Falcon, but neither of them are an XR6...smile. Plenty of power with both of them, though I found the Mondeo more zippy.

Undecided at the moment, will need to think on it for a while. However, no doubt about it, the EcoBoost is a great engine!

Have a look at a G6E. Same drivetrain as the XR6 but miles ahead in the interior. XR6 doesn't come close IMO.

Just emailed a request to test drive a Ford Falcon Ecoboost. However, unless they come to the party on the price, might have to look interstate for the best deal.

I've found G6s for just under $25,000 with less than around 5,000ks on the clock in Victoria and NSW. But in Queensland the best sticker price thus far is just shy of $30,000 for an XT with 2,500ks on the clock. There is a G6E with over 10,000ks on the clock and $34,990 on the window. Compare that with a G6Es with a sticker price around $29,000 with about the same ks in NSW.

I'll be emailing a few car brokers too after my test drive to see if they can come up with a really good price.

I just went through this myself, comparing G6, G6EB and XR6 all MKIIs tst drove them one after the other on the same loop. The EB was very nice and extremely quiet, smooth, it went well, did everything well. The XR6 with the 18s and stiffer suspension was noticably firmer and louder and more road noise. But felt tigher in the steering as well. The fatter flat bottom steering wheel made it fell a nicer place to be too. I bought the 6cyl G6. Reason was towing, it felt easier to drive ( like it did everything esier, but not by much) it was the same price and it only had 1500kms where the EB had 6000km i think and Im not sure how resale is going to go with the EB cars. Im very happy with it. Only had it a week tho.

When I bought my XR50 last year (brand new though), the Ecoboost wasn't available so it was an easier choice. If it had been available I would have strongly considered it due to the cheaper rego bill. But personally I love the look of the XR over the normal ones. So I'd probably would've still have gotten a XR.

As for insurance, I'm not sure if the Ecoboost is more expensive to insure than my XR50 for which I pay $500 per year.

Either way both are great cars

mate . you'd be mad not to buy the 2010 xr6 for almost 10 g's cheaper . if you were looking at new for new , than it would come down to xr6 or g64 .
