If you want economy, power/torque/acceleration and the improvements FG brought about in the cabin then it is a no brainer really. Improve the standard stoppers out of sight with some pads/lines/fluid or spend 2k and put some Brembos on the front if you want bling.
Only reason to get the BA 8 is for the sound and or the look if you prefer the B series look, or if the badge holds some huge meaning for you that makes you overlook all its shortcoming compared to an FG T. It is comprehensively trounced in every single regards by the FG 6T. Go to FG F6 and the goalposts move even further away from the BA to be in a different playing field altogether.

This guy is talking about a BA GT, have you guys got short memory's?? The BA GT was a oil burning, over weight, ill handling SOB of a car.
The FG will smoke a BA of any kind. Its newer, more refined, faster, & a much better drive. If it were me I'd give the BA a very wide birth, & walk straight to an FG turbo. Stick a set of Brembos on the front & you'll be happier in the long run... Just my opinion.

The FG is a clinical weapon, and a better car in every way.
The BA/F GT or GTP may be a lead tipped arrow, but it has soul that the XR6T lacks. So I'd be going that way. Another alternative is a T3 TS50 Sorry I'm biased.

Pretty good option there I reckon. You get majority of the gear and presence that the GT would have, while having the power and fuel economy (better than the GT anyway) that the FGT offers

Very simple choice, do you want show or go?

+1, imagine both cars totally debadged (ie no magical "GT" halo") and there is no contest, it's the FG T every time.
Do you want to have a "GT" or the better car? Your choice for the same money. If you want both, keep saving and get a FG GT, otherwise you'll need to pick heart over head... or head over heart... |

Meet in the middle and get a BF Typhoon... Or else get the GT. Imo it should be a very easy decision if you were considering either a BA GT or FG turbo. Nothing alike.

i think i want a GT over a turbo 6, still yet to drive either one. I did have the best of both worlds a turbo V8 falcon which i loved the feeling of boost and the noise the turbo made along with the exhaust note but really most of my driving was at speed limits so i rarely heard the spool up noise anyway and just heard the burble at cruise speeds.
been looking and there are not many around, found an 03 GTP and an 05 GT, the 05 GT seems to have the same gear as the 03 GTP for $4k more which seems a better deal but i'd be happy with a BA Mk1 GTP. Got to sell the Fiesta first anyway, been told wholesale its worth $8k but being 8 months old with 12,000km i'm sure i can get almost $12k privately won't be doing anything until next year unless someone offers me a bargain in either a BA GT, BA GTP or Pursuit Ute. Thanks for all the comments

found a couple of $14k BA GT manuals in VIC
tempting but i need to wait till Dec to pay my Fiesta loan out without incurring too many charges unless i can sell it for free and new owner pays the remaining $12k finance over 3 years at 2.9%, still at $12k for a 12 months old Fiesta with 15,000km is pretty cheap

If you want a badge, get the GT. If you want performance, get the XR6T.

drove past a dealer that had an 03 BA XR8 so i thought i'd have a look, its was nice but i didn't like it, the paint was coming off the plastic trim, seat bolsters soft, and i just didn't like it. had a look at a BF F6 too and the suede trim was worn out, same dash and console wear and i think my old AU3 XR8 aged much better
i'm leaning towards an FG XR6T but in about 18 months the new model will be out and the base XR6T should be powered by the 310kw engine and have a bit more tech so i really should hold out for one of them.... anyway i still want to sell my fiesta soon so if i sell it i might buy an AU3 XR8 until i get the new car.

Mum had I GT-P and omg I loved that car, the seats are so comfortable!, stereo is decent for standard, low and nice sitting car from standard, fpv steering wheel is nice to hold.
And a mate to me for a spin in his fg xr6 turbo, interior was no were as comfortable, wasn't as flashy, but it had Bluetooth headunit. Power between both wasn't much different sitting in the passenger seat, both sound amazing, and both loose traction easily, if it was me id take the ba gt-p. |

BF GT or a VZ R8 since you don't seem to mind either brand.

Depends on two factors:
Do you want a V8? And Do you want an FPV? V8 vs turbo 6 is a personal choice, and anyone who claims superiority is a nong. I'm not even going to bother rehashing the differences, because at the end of the day YOU want one or the other. Don’t worry, whatever option you choose there are plenty of fans to back you (and plenty to deride.) So make your choice; V8 or T6. Next is whether you want to pay extra for an FPV? Yes, you obviously get extras over and above a Falcon/Fairmont/G6, and you get more power, the badge, and overall a much rarer and more desirable car. Again this is a personal choice, but unless you are a looking for a particular model that you have always lusted over, or you consider one more collectable, my advice is to go for the newest available that fits your budget. Not sure what your budget is, but if you look at a 2010 FG, the price hike from an optioned XR8 to a GT is substantial. Furthermore the XR is significant for being the last, the GT is notable for NOT having the new engine. |

a holden is out of the question, i don't mind them but i have 2 already and i want a ford...i can't go to bathurst in my holden and wear a ford shirt...thats just wrong
i prefer a v8 all day but i like the rush of a turbo 6. i's still love a BA GT but would have to be the right price and not a collectors price...seems dealers sell them cheaper than private sellers, private sellers think they are worth more than they are, maybe in 10 years they will be worth but for value for money the fg xr6t seems like a nicer car but in 10 years will lose value if i can hold out for the last xr6t made i think that will hold its value well. wouldn't it be great to own the last high performance falcon ever made?

just flick it over to the triptronic and pretend you have a clutch pedal
its all about pref choice isnt it test drive the lot i say!! id like a v8 again, but really its just for the rumble other than that they hold not much appeal to me anymore just remember a trans cooler in the turbo six needs to be done lol

Not even close to being the same haha.
If you want a manual and buy an auto you will regret it, same if you spend most of your time in the city and in traffic your manual can get tedious. After owning both I don't think I'll own an auto again no matter how many gears it has or how fast it changes them lol. Mercury is right though, don't get something based on other people's opinions, drive both and see what you like.

Engine wise, one will go down in history as being an evolusionary legend, the other for having a short lived complicated life.
Sounds like the majority of opinions here are leaning towards a GT, however I would really avoid the BA series and get your **** in a BF-II GT as they are the better pick in the B series and offer more refinement and visual presence than BA. Just my 2cents, good luck with your purchase either way.

my Fiesta is sold so i have $12500 to spend on a car, I still plan on getting a GT or late XR6T but for now its ruled out
been looking at BA XR8's, BA XR6T's and AU3 XR8's but there are not too many about I have seen lots of AU's but they are all trashed and the owners think they are great....I have seen a couple of BA XR8's but they all have the same issues but easy to fix issues, and have not found a worthwhile XR6T yet as they are all auto or have all be modified with 20's and ill fitting stereo's. going to look at a couple of XR8's (BA Mk2's with 6sp) this weekend so hopefully i come home with one. p.s. the BA XR8 craps all over an AU3 XR8 but the BA feels bigger on the road maybe due to extra weight or longer wheelbase but it felt comfortable.

RX8 as a driving experience on twisty roads is beyond awesome. Smart packaging, seats four, wonderful interior that despite being ten years old still looks better than a new Falcon. High revving, rear wheel drive true sportscar the likes of which just can't be had any more for less than 60k. But, they use more fuel than a supercharged GT, and also can sip a bit of oil that you need to keep an eye on. They are an awesome little sports car however, and can't be compared to a GT, which is certainly not remotely a sports car in the same way that an RX8 is. The same way the RX8 is not a grand touring car that seats four in comfort etc. But a truly awesome car if a sports car is what you are after. we had one for a couple of years and enjoyed the hell out of it.
