I am not happy that we're losing them, but to boycott another country isn't going to help either.

Screwed? Well not entirely. Just wait till Gina Hancock gets her way and opens the flood gates with bringing mine workers on 457 visas. The shaft will be buried home then.

It's just not profitable to build cars here and sales are declining. Whinge all you like, but that doesn't suddenly make it justifiable for Ford and Holden to keep building their local models.
If you don't want to associated with the company anymore, just trade your Ford in with another car and never buy a Ford again. |

How dare they try and make money. The evil foreigner stick, its a shame that's still around in 2013, a worse shame than Aussie manufacturing ending. They didn't do a damn thing to try and ruin Australia. The foreigners aren't out to get us.

Perhaps if more people had an attitude like mine we wouldn't be in the mess we are now. We bend over to appease the rest of the world only to get a knife in the back every time. If other countries have a weak economy I dont see why that is Australia's problem or responsibility to fix. |

Yeah, Australia wouldn't be making any money from exports or anything, we'll have no doctors and a economy would be 100x worse...

I'm not sure if your aware but just because cars are assembled in Australia you would find there would be a lot of components made outside Aust that are used in these vehicles.. Is your TV,DVD player, mobile ph,computer are they all made in Oz ?? I reckon you'll find you have lot of overseas products in your house or that you've used. So your argument is a bit hypocritical.

"If Australia has a weak economy I don't see why that is other countries problem or responsibility to fix." Works both ways, eh? BTW did you read this on an Australian made computer/monitor/laptop/tablet/smartphone? Didn't think so. So why not chuck them out too? |

Good on Ford. Good to see they're making money and that they are building cars that people want to buy.
BTW, during the GFC Alan Mulally basically saved ford from chapter 11 by getting the auto workers union in to many of their strategic meetings, making dozens of large concessions to save the company such as the lifetime pensions etc. It worked, and I proffer that this employment of more Americans is part of the negotiations that took place to save the company and jobs. Ford employees in America are really proud of the decisions made and are proud of the fact they work for ford, so it was not all pain with no gain, it is actually a remarkable success story. So much so, that GM tried to poach Alan Mulally a few years ago. Well done Ford, pity the employment conditions in this country are not as conducive to manufacturing and export. Note: This is not a swipe at any individual or organisation, it's been done to death and well established that over a dozen different contributing factors have caused the cessation of the auto industry in Australia.

The new Changan Ford JV plants in China will increase production and engine capacity there by 300,000 car per year.
Ford may have been slow starters in China but they are catching up quick smart, good to see.. One of the hopes is that as "One Ford" brings huge increases in scales of economy and profitability in major areas, smaller regional niche areas can be covered by other products developed as extensions of those primary platforms. I'm hoping that as part of the shake out process, we get some interesting variants on global vehicles here. Vehicles that set Ford sedans and SUVs apart form the run of the mill competition, maybe either HP or hybrids.. Last edited by jpd80; 14-12-2013 at 07:45 PM. |

I too do my best to buy Australian where I can, I cannot do it every time but at least I and others make a bloody effort to provide some support to my country. It is easy to slag off isn't it? Much tougher to maintain principles that better others than just yourself.

I check the label of everything that I buy. A lot of the Woolworths/Coles home brand stuff is cheap but if you check the label 9 times out of 10 it is made in some cheap Asian country. Stick to brand names as most of them are Aus made.
