How exactly does a scam like this work? Is he/she that stupid to think they can get away with it? Let's say someone wants to come have a look...

Chances are they will ask you for a deposit because they have had a lot of response to the ad and you'll find that the owner is overseas on work and will have an associate show you the car after you put a deposit down, usually via PayPal.

The plate is legit , you have to chose premium as the plate type when checking.

Dick paid for his GTF he bought it from Q Ford Springwood. He would have gotten a deal of some description but he even inspected it before they did PD on it.

That's the deal. They get a few people for $2 to $5k deposits then disappear.

How do you buy a new car without registering it?
I thought that was impossible!

Would his name even be in the log book?

I bought a car in Victoria, drove it unregistered to Sydney and then registered it. I can be done.

Good luck to Dick and hope he gets as much for it as he can.
Regarding his financial situation, he hasn't been bankrupt as mentioned previously, but he has struggled for a long time.
I listened to him talk few years back and he said that the team needs about $7M every year in sponsorship just to stay afloat. That's a lot of money you've got to find year after year.

Is he backrupt? No. Does he have the finances that he should have, considering his accomplishments? Defiantly not, and that's mainly due to the people who took advantage of him in the past.

If I won lotto, I still would call him!

Dicks might fetch a bit more and so it should good on him. The rest of these clowns though that think they can buy GT-F for what late $70's put in a shed n sell it in 6 months for 125-130k+ They are dreamin, say in 20years time if they still havnt driven them and there still showroom condition than yes they will be worth a fortune.

Still, its a shame a lot of genuine falcon fanatics missed out on their dream car they would of kept forever and used as a pride n joy wknder, all because of some greedy cashed up investors tryin to make a buck.

I call it the "Time Lord" scenario..................a limited edition GT is released, a few sell for over and above the odds to those that can genuinely afford them, and the speculator mentality kicks in because they are now all suddenly worth more..............this scenario almost always goes south eventually like the good old airplane or pyramid schemes and ends in tears when new buyers stop coming in. But step 20 or 30 years into the future, once the cars have done their time and earned their stripes, the scenario changes again and the remaining better examples will attract a premium. With cars in most cases provenance is not a given, it has to be earned.

Cheers Mick

DJ's car isn't registered and you will be the first owner. If I was buying that car I'd get him to register it in his name first and then buy it as the second owner - surely it would be worth something later to have a car that was once "owned" by him.

High 70's really? Did anyone buy one that cheaply?

Mine owes me 90k.

It's not hard to sell them for higher money, we have sold one Used for 125k and we have 2 others that we are asking similar money for...Used cars that we paid over 100k for.

I think the scenario is probably a little different to suggested above...I think there is an annoyance at those that bought to cash in and I have spoken to buyers who wouldn't buy those cars on principle...I get that.

Eventually, those cars will end up in the hands of real enthusiast buyers IMHO and once they do, you will rarely see one offered for sale again.

I agree with the scenario suggested but I think this being the last accelerates it intensely and I think any owner that needs to sell, and presents his add accordingly, will have no trouble making money on a GT-F.

Mine now has 7,500 klms, If I had to sell it today, I would put together an excellent add on Carsales and I'd be confident that I could get 100- 110 for it without too much grief.

If its not hard to sell them for higher money buy this one and make 10-15K. I reckon the price will fall out of them till the yreach around 50K in two years.

I think many of you under estimate how many people will not be selling their gtf. Sure there will be a few, once those are snapped up by the right people I think these will largely remain off the market.

No we haven't under estimated anything, and the 500 built figure certainly does not make them rare either..................it's more a case of "The Good Train Demand" has left the station at current price points and the market has been satisfied for these cars.

There has been one on eBay for months wanting 99k. Now has some attempt to convince everyone it's great value by telling us all that two sold recently for 236k and 157k... Pretty sure before that auction his reason for selling was he bought it as a family car for his Mrs but was far too powerful to even drive!
Oh Yeh, just like a real crazy solid cammed manual 4v clevo XA to drive they are?! Normal people can't drive them...

It doesn't come with a full tank of petrol!

I used to deliver pamphlets to Dick's house for the local supermarket back in the 80s. Used to love checking out his cars.

I’ve said that many times – not rare enough.

Too many will be cocooned and survive the test of father time and collectors in Australia for high price cars of this type are thin on the ground.

Otherwise collectors would still be happily snapping them up very quickly right now for plus 100 grand prices.

The average classic car collector of the world is just that, average people with one car or two cars and they tend to pay average prices for classic vehicles with equal cool value but maybe less magazine cover appeal.

And over the years the number of owners I’ve heard say “I’ll never get rid of this car” who eventually find a reason or become star struck by the next big thing or realise it costs good money even just to store a car and keep it maintained for 20 years is high compared to the percentage that actually do hold on to them.

They’ll eventually start to come on the market, the prices will drop for a while and who knows what’ll happen after that.

I doubt it, not with 7,500km's on the clock. Anyone getting over 100k for their GTF have dealer delivered Km's.
