Nissan Titan sold in US is a full size pick up and available with VK56 (much bigger than Navara- LWB Titan is over 6m long). Nissan Frontier is Navara equivalent and it has 4l V6 which was dropped in OZ because of poor sales.
I guess if VK fits into R51 Pathy it fits into D40 as well - that would of been interesting ute..

Whats your point?
Both the Wildtrak and Amarok Ultimate are a different class to a Blingy D40.. Flog the 550 sideways everywhere bar outright acceleration and even there isn't too much in it there.

Both Wildtrak and Ultimate can be had for low 60s so it's a bit of a shock to me that 550s actually sell for 72k. Still, if people buy Hilux "Black" editions for 60k then I suppose anything's possible.

Looks like they shrunk the centre section. Or that the front and rear have elephantitis.

And the shamefully overpriced Landcruiser 75 series

Why are you picking on BT50's in a MB Thread :(
I have 18" Rims and oversized tyres on mine to fill out the guards. Once you get the wheels in the right proportion to the headlights, they look a little better and more aggresive, especially after a few beers.

People buy Rangers. When there is the same ute for less.

I don't think many paid 72k for Navara 550. D40 is old platform compared to (and it shows in many ways) Ranger or Amarok but the driveline is cut above either. 550 is a lot quicker than the the others .

550 Nav is 9.5 Sec 0-100, Both Amarok and Ranger are High 9s/low 10s, so I wouldn't say it's a lot quicker. I've read that review before and I'm curious to know what seriously ill Ranger they had to time a 13 sec 0-100 run.

Something not right with that. Even a Prado can do it in 13. I have timed my PX a couple of times and both were right on 10 seconds.

As for the Merc, I don't hate the way it looks from that photo even though it's a terrible colour.
Get it in black, and do a few offroad inspired mods and it may look pretty tough.

Who knows what the back end will look like though.

Nissan quotes 9.3s 0-100 for 550 and in my experience it is flat 9 depending on launch - it is a truck after all . Compared mine against workmates Amarok and Hilux and it is a lot quicker. Not that it matters much , I just enjoy effortless cruise at highway speeds and good fuel economy .

The 3.0L V6 TDCi sold here is rated at 165 kW / 440 Nm in Vito 122 CDi form with a 0-100 time of 9.2 seconds in something that weighs 2T.

In Euro passenger car specification the same engine is rated up to 195 kW / 620 Nm and has also been used in:

.. the Chrysler 300C Diesel until 2011 where it produced 160 kW / 510 Nm;

.. the Jeep Grand Cherokee until 2010 rated at 160 kW / 508 Nm;

.. a whole raft of Mercedes models including E320 Bluetec (157 kW / 528 Nm); E320CDI (165 kW / 540 Nm) and E350 (195 kW / 620 Nm), the latter with a 0-100 time of 6.2 seconds in an 1825 kg vehicle so there is plenty of potential in it.

Cheers
Russ

Its interesting how they under tune it so much in the vans and in the 300C vs some of their other cars.
