The days are gone (and have been for quite some time) of people automatically "respecting" or positively desiring V8's, as can be seen by sales figures...in fact these days unless you're talking to other died in the wool V8-only fans you have to justify your choice to buy a V8. Especially in Queensland where the rego costs are absolutely punishing for owning one. I'd have an Ecoboost Mustang in a heartbeat, as would most people who looked at things objectively and realistically and included things like running costs and rego and insurance rather than simply ask how many cylinders are under the bonnet and think that was the be-all and end-all of it. There's a big difference here between a four cylinder rego of around $700 and a V8 rego of about $1200... Last edited by 2011G6E; 09-07-2015 at 07:53 PM. |

Why are so many flogs calling it a v4 on the Utube link?
A bit pointless when we have the T6 here but would be fun to do with an fg 4cyl |

Times change...you'd have to be a fresh faced 18 year old not to be amazed that the ecoboost 4cyl in the Mustang is going to be putting out 233kw and 432nM of torque with absolute reliability and easy every day use.
Not that long ago to get that sort of power out of a four cylinder you had to make a lot of compromises like putting up with heat issues, the thing running like a pig, and sitting there wondering when it was going to detonate from too much boost. That's 312 horsepower...a figure that outshines most of our favourite old school V8's unless they were heavily modified. Only a numptie would be unhapy with that output from a stock standard every day car. |

I am in the market for a small daily driver with good fuel economy, I would love to own a 4cyl Mustang. That way I would get the sensible car and get to enjoy looking at it Unfortunately the price tag is a bit out of my league.

For 25k US Ecoboost is a bargain . Engine performance is amazing for the size of the engine.
Still , most people talk about modifying it (like this thread) to possibly acheive near V8 performance . Interesting points about fuel economy of a small engine in a big car in this Car &Driver review. http://www.caranddriver.com/reviews/...ic-test-review Last edited by SumoDog68; 10-07-2015 at 11:21 AM. |

Most people chasing a 4 cylinder are also shopping in the Corolla price range.
Mainly only enthusiasts will see a 4 cylinder for it's performance value and be prepared to buy a Mustang type of package.

People cross shop with random cars sometimes but its natural enemy would have to be the GT86 and perhaps a cheaper alternative to the 370Z. No doubt there maybe some GTi/ST etc buyers would will move to the more stylish coupe.

In my opinion the Mustang is also the best looking of the lot. Still at its price range it won’t interest the bulk of customers looking for 4 cylinders as most of them are motivated by price above anything else. Driving Dynamics, what's that they'd say.

Not many 4 cylinder performance rear wheels drives on the market with this much kit and style and as quick as an A45 AMG with a tune . I don't think the V8 mustang will run mid 12's standard.

I'd happily have an ecoboost Mustang for several reasons...price is surprisingly great, the looks of the thing, the economy, the power, the much lower cost of running one here in Queensland where you get bent over using Deep Heat as a lubricant if you own a V8 come rego time, and because it wouldn't be "just yet another V8". Now if only they can fix the ludicrous delivery time they quote...Australians are used to pretty much walking in and buying what they want and driving it home if not that same day, maybe a week later....we aren't used to being told "Pay now and you can pick it up in a year and a half" for something as ordinary as a Ford... |

His point could be that the Xr8 has gained 50% more power where the Mustang Ecoboost has nearly 100% more power than most average 4 cylinders from back in the day

I'm sure I read somewhere that the tune was different for Europe and Australia

But the 300c SRT power rating is the same as in the states. Current model is 470hp in both countries.. so there is some funny business going on some where.
I would say the exhaust would be creating the difference not the tune, as it would be more restricted here then in the states.

A lot of 2015 GT's are laying down ~275rwkw stock. We have been spoilt by the Miami making 330rwkw from a 335kw motor. |

The wait time is disappointing, but it is what it is, and obviously there's still plenty of buyers lining up for it, and not cancelling orders. Extraordinary indeed. |

I didn't stick around to ask the obvious questions...such as "So I pay a deposit now and keep paying...or not paying?...until I actually get my car?", and "What happens if I want to trade in a car against the purchase of one?", among other questions. It's something new for the motoring public here and I wonder how many "casual" sales they are missing out on because of this? I mean people who as I said are used to walking and and driving out with their purchase. |
