Average Australian family is 2.6 people :-). People with children on average have 2 , so you are right . Golf is considered more than big enough in many Europian countries.

It's not the povvo's car of the year either...

Just ...best car of the year....

Tesla Model S also won it in the United States.

I fixate on the performance car for under a hunjy K cos it's hilarious, but the best he could muster was a jibe about a Colette Dinnigan dress to go with the Fiesta...nice try. Jeremy Clarkson, this guy aint.

Where in this thread did anyone say Falcon should've won this or that! For someone who always says their views are not biased on here, you have a crack at Falcon every chance you get. You're biased alright, against Falcon!

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Small cars are becoming ever more popular as second, third etc. cars in the family, but from what I've observed almost every single family will have a large/medium sedan, wagon or SUV as their "long distance" main car. Camry or Caprice is purely a factor of comfort, a Camry is more than enough for a long trip with possibly occasional towing. A Corolla on the other hand wouldn't be up for that.

In Europe there's probably less demand for large/medium cars simply cause everything is so small. A long drive would have you crossing a border or two, so there isn't a very big market for it.

Read between the posts it is pretty clear.
I am not against Falcon at all, but I don't hold it in high regard like people here do. I don't hold onto a bygone era, Falcon is just another product and that's how I judge it, nothing more.
I am Ford man, not a Falcon man.

There's not too much to go wrong in the drivetrain of an electric vehicle and servicing is vastly simpler. Any theoretical issues would be some of the stupid things that Ford owners would be familiar with like door lock actuators, ball joints etc!

A lot of myths about Europe. It's a big and wealthy continent and there are plenty of large/medium cars including big SUVs.

I find it funny that the interior space of the Golf, which they've chosen as the family car, it not that much bigger than the Fabia which they've chosen as the entry car. I still think for a family with lump-sized teenagers you need something a bit bigger. With little kids maybe the Golf is OK. It's the amount of luggage space that's actually the crunch.

I am Ford man, not a Falcon man.
If Falcon is 'just another product', surely then Ford is 'just another product'. Nothing to get excited about then as all cars are just 'products'?

I am a Fairlane aficionado myself but surely it is Falcon that stirred the loins of 99% of Ford fans in OZ including myself? That 'bygone era' is still fresh in the minds of most who's formative years coincided with a time when Falcon was King. Not all of us can easily dismiss hugely exciting times just because they are gone...

Never said that, but thing i will agree on is $100k is too much, if it was under say $40/50k it would make more sense. In $100k there is such a broad range of cars

My wife & I are seriously interested in the model 3 coming out in 2017(?). Provided there's:

* A decent electric recharge network by then (the only two in Gippsland, VIC are Bairnsdale & Leongatha! If one opened up in Sale we'd be laughing)
* Charge times can be reduced, and
* The RRP doesn't blow out.

How do you define a performance car? Is it just straight line speed? Overall power? Handling?

What else is important in a performance car? Looks? Mod cons? Running costs? Convenience/suitability for your lifestyle?

The judges would've scored each performance car (in the up to 100K bracket) in each category, tallied up the totals, then discussed the 'X factor' of the highest scorers and decided on a winner.

They may have found the ST just had 'it', the vibe, the mabo.

Or, they may have found that the ratio of X factor versus cost of purchase (30K) [and running costs] in the little upstart ST was better than those of the cars pushing 100K (in which case a BFYB performance crown would've been more appropriate)

Tesla should not have won that though. The Tesla is a novelty car, its very expensive and highly impractical. If Tesla gave their cars generators that run on petrol that you could use on long trips then yes the car is amazing, but in its current electric only state its nothing more the musks little pet project.

Cue all the politically correct do-gooders.
As a forum troll, you're quite the master-baiter.

Small pocket rockets can be fun to fang around in. Although I'm not sure whether the Fiesta would be worthy of winning a category that stretches all the way to $100k, as many others have already said.
