Rest the name until something comes along that warrants the name at least.
The public will buy it for the same reason they buy the Cruze which is hardly a world beater by any standards you care to apply. The absence of a V8 will have some impact to volume but not the majority of it and the larger percentage of the buying public couldn't care (or even know) which end was driving.

Just about everyone I speak to about cars comments about how ugly the Mondeo and whale mouthed Fords in general are, so I don't think I'm the one with the blinkers.
but you are nothing but praise for holden, even ugly ones, i definitely am open minded, my next car will be a vf ss wagon or a ranger. i take all cars on their merits and judge accordingly.

it looks like even russ has had enough of your posts

I recon every car manufacturer should get your advice. and then do the exact opposite.

oh wait they already are

Comment from the Drive website on Commodore replacement, classic!

I find it bizarre someone would spend so much time on a forum for a car manufacturer they hate. It would be like me joining a Great Wall site and just bagging the crap out of them every day. Surely there are better things to do.

Tempted, the product was only a small part of the problem. The Ford name is toxic in Australia primarily due to the the dealers. Their "they all do it" attitude when it came to warranty concerns is still leaving a sour taste in many mouths.

The next problem was (and I contend still is) marketing; it is non-existent apart from a few advertisements for Focus and the odd Ranger one. They could have been no.1 had they made the most of the momentum gained with the B-series Falcon and Territory. Yet they rested on their laurels and this is the result.

The perceived lack of quality from the local product didn't help Ford. There are numerous examples of B and F-series Falcons rusting way too early (boot lap joint in the BA/BF's and overall poor body preparation in the FG) which contributed to this perception. The perception of the local product being a gas-guzzler also contributed, despite the BF and FG product having way above average fuel economy.

So before you go and rant about the "whale mouth" being the death of Ford, please reconsider.

Well done by Russ to delete the Holden trolls' post.

The troll has nothing to add here.

The Mondeo is a good looking car - I think the hatch is a bit too swoopy through the tailgate though. Just my opinion.

70mm or less than 3" isn't much difference in length (that's what I tell the missus, anyway) - the rest of the measurements are line-ball, so I'd say Mondeo is a large car, perhaps sold here currently as mid sized to make it seem like it fits between falcon and laser.....oops, focus.

Ford should bring the V6 turbo AWD Interceptor from the US and stick a falcon badge on that.

This will be good! :P
I'm so glad ford just stopped with the falcon and preserved it as it was and didn't do anything like this!

The mighty falcon soon to be with the valiants.
The commodore will be remembered as a front wheel drive cruze lemon by the time it ends.

Now that the Australian government has completely wrecked our motor industry, finish what they started and start treating us like adults and scrap ADR, allow us to import whatever vehicles LHD/RHD from wherever we want and allow LHD cars to be driven on our roads freely, even if it means needing to stick a Left Hand Drive sticker on the rear. . pretty sure the only people to oppose this would be Mercedes-Benz Australia who will be dragged kicking and screaming that they no longer have the right to print money.

People buy rear wheel drive V8 commodore's for a reason. A weird looking twin turbo 4x4 commodore is stupid, and I seriously doubt the thai fords would bust as much as the Korean crap holden shove their badges on.

There are hefty penalties for false advertising lol, I expect Holden to trump up the German angle when released, ie quality, strength, innovation, etc. Time will tell if its a good thing or not.

If GM were smart, they'd get rid of the Holden name altogether...unless they want to start up a new horse drawn carriage subsidiary.

Are you and Tempted girlfriends or the same person? Fact is...the next Commodore is FWD...sure the performance variants MAY be 4WD...but the damage is done. It's not a Holden and it's not a Commodore. I can remove my Falcon badge and stick a Mustang badge on it. Still not a Mustang. LS1 Forums getting boring these days??? Or is it sour grapes that there will not be a HOLDEN V8. Even if Corvette or Camaro come over here...they will be Chevs...not Holden. The Holden V8 is dead.

When you look at the photos of the real vehicle it,s a nice looking bit of gear.Problem with the Mustang is that only being a 2 door Ford are only going to get about 10-15% of the potential sales that they would have got with a 4 door version alongside the 2 door

Well the first Commodore was really a rejigged Opel so I guess GM Australia has done a complete circle.Must remember the first Falcon was an American copy
