My car auto locks the doors, and I have it set so that it normally only unlocks the driver's door when I press the key remote. Out of habit I usually lock the door when I hop in anyway. It has come in handy, there was a situation late one night coming home after a dinner party when a shady person appeared at my passenger door out of the blue. He asked me something but I didn't quite hear it and just stared at him for a second, then he tried to hop in but the door was locked. I just said 'not tonight bud', started the car and drove off. Dunno what he wanted but I wasn't going to the one to provide it.

Not sure what reasonable excuse someone could come up with for having a hunting knife in their console PS I don't carry anything in my car, never had a need, never been threatened or similar.

Yea we all do, an accelerator and two tonnes of steel
That said, I don't see any reason why you'd need to carry a gun or knife or anything of that sort. I can't say I've ever felt unsafe in NZ, even in Otara. Worst case if someone tries carjacking me I'll just put the foot to the floor and either leave them behind... or leave them 6 feet under.

Carjacking?
Easy. Leave me alone, or I'll take my t-shirt off. What is seen can not be unseen. I am not a pretty man.

Hello,
I am sure this has done the rounds before, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0hhoO5Z6pw This is the sort of idiot that is out there. You would have to kill him to stop him, and most people wont have the nerve. The laws are there to protect the Crims, not the victims. For a Lady on her own, a Dog is the best home security. It cant be taken off you and used against you. In your Car ? anything you have that you can use will go against you in Court. Much of the legal system is only a notch higher that the human garbage they defend. That includes the Judge's them selves. Remember the Kiddy Fiddler in Sydney ? The whole system needs to go back some decades where it was for justice. |

Hello,
I read on another Forum about it, and he had a history of trouble. At first he denied it saying they made it up, but after it went to air, others came forward with similar stories. You are not dealing with normal rational people out there. You may have to make a difficult choice, but if some idiot starts something choose yourself. |

Best weapon is a cool head.
Got to consider your passengers first, property second. Some people are just plain strange. Example the earlier post of a guy who just tried to get into a car for a lift without permission. If you are going to carry something 'handy' then make sure you know how to use it. Most people think 'she'll be right mate I'll just swing the club lock at him'. Then when the time comes they swing, miss and have the club lock taken off them. Plus they didn't see the second guy. Dumb. If you can handle yourself, by all means, I"m all for giving someone what they deserve. |

Back in the 1990s/early 2000s all you needed was a Nokia phone, imagine copping a Nokia 3315 blow to your head?
Throw one of those snd the person on the receiving end is going to hospital in a meat wagon |

I am always polite, been brought up that way, also been brought up not to put up with fools, and always tell it how it is.
Most people don't like being told the truth as a large part of the population live in their very own imaginary fantasy reality, and hate anything remotely associated with reality. Being 6'2" and 100 plus kg and hitting the gym several times a week and running my own self defence academy for around 15 years seems to help also.

I had an old tyre lever next to my seat when I drove cabs, the one with the lug on one end and the flat 'blade' for removing hubcaps on the other.
On the bike I always carry a heavy chain with a huge padlock on it, chain is inside an old bicycle inner-tube so it doesn't scratch anything. My nephew nearly got done for having a baseball bat in the car, smartar$e cop tried to class it as an offensive weapon. This is what you need.... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JV-XEiUOjYE

Strange that your involvement in self defence doesn't push that as part of the training. Most I've been involve with over the years, make understanding others, and how best to deal with them, a big part of understanding where a conflict may go, or more importantly won't go. But to each their own. Would be a boring world if we all thought the same.

I don't carry anything and have never felt the need too. I just lock my doors at night time.
When I had the 300c a guy tried to get in the back seat while I was stopped at the lights. It was Saturday night and it looked like he had had a few drinks. I just assumed he thought I was a HC since they do use a few 300c's around here as HC. I didn't feel threatened, but I am still glad it had self locking doors. |

Is that how you get banned so often - YOU don't like being told the truth - knowledge is a good thing - here in Darwin there are places / times you don't go after dark - personally I have a wooden axe handle in the back with a purchase receipt attached - never had anyone ask to see the receipt!
Cheers Vincenzo
