It's possible even those Pirelli 265's are too narrow for the Sprint's 650Nm... Cars with similar torque outputs like the Jag F-type and AMG GT are both fitted with 295 section rubber. But again, the title of this thread should be $63k XR8 vs $83k HSV, so people can see where their money is going... and we probably won't even see the XR8 Sprint tested against it's direct competitor, the 304kW SS-V as the results would be too embarrassing for Holden ;)

Did you watch the same video as me. The VF continues to pull away and then backs off. Sorry but this time the Holden is quicker.

Also if this becomes a value contest, the LS3 SS wins hands down at $44k. The SSV-R is a handling package and it fulfils that brief superbly- it's one of the best handling sedans on the planet and there's plenty of data to prove it. Holden have absolutely nothing to be embarrassed about and honestly I'm tired of these cars being reduced to a quarter mile time. Hell, the Sprint didn't even win this contest and we're still implying it's better value? The brutal truth is the Clubsport does everything better- and is priced appropriately. There's also the reality that people will have cross-shopped these cars regardless of price. If the Sprints were 90 grand they still would have sold all of them. Ford also encouraged these comparisons by allowing their reps to boast that the Sprints were benchmarked in acceleration against a GTS. |

Other tests have returned the Sprint 8 doing a 4.6. There is something wrong with this test. Either A) The sprint was extremely hot, B) the Sprint had less then 50% rubber remaining on rear tyres or C) the driver wasn't doing his job. These cars with transient overboost are good for 400kw.
The Sprint still wins on looks and price if you ask me. Those HSV's seem to get worse as the years progress (I would buy a VF SSVR anyday over a Clubsport R8).

They ran almost identical MPH. Wheelspining half the track is,not going to win a drag race. The MPH tells the story. The XR8 sprint is a match for the GTS.
The roll on was a limp wristed attempt by the Ford driver. Hell you only heard the supercharger for a fraction of that time. He wasn't really caining it. |

Yes and I truly believe that the tyres on this Sprint were dead as per why you can hear it wheelspining its *** off the first 200 metres.

[QUOTE=Adrenaline;5660929]Sit inside a Clubsport or SSV-R and you will see where your money is going.

Gotta agree with this, my uncle's SSV-R handles better than my XR8 and lets not even talk about the interior its like chalk and cheese. Having said that the engine in the XR8 is an absolute gem and it is the reason why i went for the XR8 and not a SSV-R. |

As some here consistently bang on about, unless the cars are tested same day, same time, same place then it isn't really considered consistent comparison. Whilst you provided that pic, what's to say a magazine tests a SSV-R and does 4.5 on a separate day with no other car being tested. Is that comparable too?

This test was flawed, typical motor style. Rumour has it the tyres on the XR8 were rooted. Motor should have done the 0-100 test before anything else when the car was fresh. People should not walk away discouraged by this one FLAWED test.

I drive an SSVR as my daily work car and have tracked it. Ticks all the boxes for me except outright power
But then I just jump in the F6. Which is Stone Age compared to he VF And that's just the 400kw version. Wait till HSV bring out the final GTS. That car will carry a big stick for spanking the competitors

What I really want to see as im sure others do is the XR6 Sprint vs GTS. I still doubt it will beat the GTS but if it even gets close to it which I think it will, Will be a win for the Barra anyway given its underdog status in the matchup. Its a rediculous match up really but I have a feeling the results will be surprising.

Basically it appears the Holden has had more $$ spent on the entire car and it shows with its consistent performance times.

I am confident we will see an XR8 run by a proper crew against an LSA do the same if not better time as the LSA.

We'll see proper results from seasoned drags racers from this forum I reckon.
Ford, throw the keys of the XR6T and XR8 in this direction, we'll see some decent results. We know a stock FG F6 is capable of 12.4-12.5 as demonstrated by a few owners on this forum.

I think I know a few guys at Ford that would love to prove some people wrong. But they have to be careful how they go about it. Anyone remember the GTF Vs GTS dyno fiasco? Which magazine was that again?

These two have the same size or smaller tyres than the XR8 Sprint. XR8 Sprint 345kw with overboost 400kW 575nM with overboost 650Nm 1872kg Rears are 265/35R19 0-100km/h = ? C63S 375kW 700Nm 1730kg Rears are 265/35R19 0-100km/h = 4.0 seconds C63 Edition 507 373kW 610Nm 1797kg Rears 255/35R18 0-100km/h = 4.2 seconds Tyres may not be the only problem as sometimes it just comes down to good engineering. Maybe Holden has a better chassis and the HSV is a better setup car because of it. As already mentioned the base SS Commodore at $44k is probably the best all round value of the local product.

So another variable between HSV and the Sprint 8 is the LSD and how good it is in transferring the power down and preventing wheelspin.... Again, putting in a Truetrac/Wavetrac into Sprint 8 will probably improve traction, those with Wavetrac/truetrac care to comment if it improves power down....

The SS and Clubsport are definitely appealing. Both cars have plenty of potential.

I came across this video, and while they're not racing them, both the 6 and the 8 sprint do take off towards the end, and the 6 leaves the 8 behind.
Again, lots of wheel spin, but that may also have been the driver going for a burn out. https://youtu.be/8iyDG8WTzpA?t=3m0s Gotta say, for me the times don't mean much, I just know that the XR8 sprint in that gold colour is one fine looking machine. |

They should have done the comparison against the 6 Sprint. There have been multiple tests between FG/X Miami powered cars vs LSA powered cars in various conditions and various combinations and the HSVs have come out as the slightly faster car in all of them so its hardly a big surprise. The 6 cylinder will be the comparison to watch. Cant wait for it

strap two turbos on a v8 and it will be xr6 what>?. the actual barra motor is nothing special, by definition long strokes are not racing motors but I admit they are fast out the box.

Motor videos never make sense. Just take it with a grain of salt.
Looking at how our sprint 6 did on the dyno with crap fuel who's to say the sprint 8 in the video didn't have crap fuel. At the end of the day in that video the clubbie wins. I'm sure there will be more vids showing the sprint win take the standard xr8 testing they did against the ss and clubbie. But like others have said the truth will come out when owners take them to the track. |
