cheapest rrp for a base falcon is $40k. I'd be surprised if many line workers could afford that.
Kia Cerato is $19990 drive away. hardly surprising is it? |

You being too judgemental, you know nothing of the employees situations as to what support or sacrifices they have shown or done for Ford over the years, your comments is very distasteful.

Hands up who drives a junker to work? I was expecting some shiny new Lux. Shame on me hiding my three Fords lest I be tarred and feathered

And this bloke stood out walking out crying and then driving off in a Toyota. Crying as obviously he was emotional, but he never considered that he was part of the problem. Yes he is one person , one of millions all of whom contributed to this end, just like many drops of water that made up the iceberg that sank the Titanic. Yes thats all we seen, and know about this bloke and I also drive cars other than Fords on occasion, we even have a GM product in our family that my missus bought, but now she is considering a brand new Ranger as she likes the look of them.

When living in Sydney I was driving a mint BF GT to work. Living in the bush I walk to work and use a 2016 Toyota HiLux 4x4 work car (not owned by me) when I need to go somewhere.
Been nagging the boss for a Ranger for four years now, but keep getting Toyotas, so all part of the problem I guess

What Australian Ford is comparable with the Hilux?
I am sad we are no longer making Fords here, but I haven't bought a Australian Ford. Personally I don't want a Sedan, single cab ute or an on road SUV. People saying his good Ford might be in the shed at home, you would think if that were the case he would at least bring it for the last day. |

Good point there, I think I would be driving my 'good' Ford to work the last day as well, especially if I was walking out teared up carrying a Ford flag

My hands up. My XR6 got hit five times in 18 months (parked legally) at work & not once did anyone leave a note. There's no way I'll park my GT there. I budgeted enough for the GT & for a POS. The extra rego costs buy me peace of mind the car it took me twenty years to get isn't being damaged. I'd be devastated to find my GT had been hit. The junker Subaru on the other hand has been hit once in the five months I've had it & I don't care!

This thread has reached a new low, blaming a few factory workers for the closure of an entire industry. The ford workers have known for 3 years that their jobs were going to end, you could understand why they haven't fallen over themselves to get a 40k loan for a car they don't know that they could repay after October 7 this year.
And as they say, who needs enemies when you have friends who call themselves ford enthusiasts.

Just because they work at Ford doesn't necessarily mean they're fans of the brand.

if I worked for Ford I wouldn't have one. Unless I worked for Ford before 2003 in which case id have something from whichever generation I may have been in. But since I'm 23 and got stuck with these modern Fords which include no wagon or Fairlane there is just nothing id buy unless second hand. Factory workers however, reports have mentioned a lot of the workers to be 50 years or older so would have been working when there was a full range.
I cant imagine they were all enthusiasts or mad about Ford. To some or most it was merely a job. I don't do my job because I like the company nor am i too crash hot on the kind of work. I do it because bills don't pay themselves and it's within my skill level. At the end of the day it doesn't matter, the public wanted imports and now they got em.

So I watched the video. & noticed 3 things about that blokes Hilux. 1. It was an older model. 2. It was Dual cab 3. It was 4WD. So taking the last 2 points there. Let me ask you the question. When has Australia produced and sold a twin cab 4WD ute? Seems my arguement has backfired. We did. In the early 2000's. It as an avalanche. That was a an Australian produced car by...... who was it?? HSV! That's right! Holden..... Special...... Vehicles..... That isn't a Ford company? Well, bugger. My point is, Ford Australia didn't produce a wide arrangement of cars for its employees (or us) to buy. They killed off the wagon, killed off the Fairlane coming into FG. You could go out and buy a ranger, yes, but did that purchase help out the Broadmeadows or Geelong plants.... No To keep Australian cars being produced, everyone needed to buy Australian produced cars. And what happens if Australia doesn't produce a car that you need for family/work/leisure commitments? Yeah, you buy a brand & model of car that does meet those needs. Fuel economy? That diesel hatch built in Australia will do...... Oh? Don't produce one of those? In an Aussie Ford? Well, bugger again. So don't point finger at the workers for "Failing to buy what they built" to protect themselves. No point buying a car you have no use for if you can't afford it. Ford shot themselves in the foot. And the government over the past 30 years helped...... Not as simple as you make it my friend.

I think some here are drawing a pretty long bow. Lots of employees of Ford on Friday left for the last time in cars of many different makes & models. The point is this, the guy with the flag knew there would be a media presence, he made himself known to the media, gave a speech, waved a Ford flag....... & then drove off in a Toyota. Plenty of non Ford people I know saw exactly that & have commented to me they thought it was odd.
I understand everyone's comments & thoughts, but if you are going to make a statement to the media of what a huge loss Ford closing is maybe you should've parked the Toyota a street or two away? |

I'm guessing everything in your house is made in Australia? I love Australia, I would love if everything I bought was Australian made, but let's be honest, we know that is not going to happen. Even if you tried it still wouldn't happen. We have known Ford is shutting down Australian manufacturing for a while now. Wonder how many factory employees were willing to drop a load of cash on an FGx knowing they will be soon out of a job. Quote:
They may not have used those words exactly, but that's what I got from it. My missus wanted a hatchback because she doesn't need a large car and prefers something fuel efficient that is easy to park and drive around town. I told her it doesn't matter what suits her she should stop being ungrateful and buy a damn Territory which cost more than double of a standard hatchback. |

Ford Aus have been killed by their dumb decisions in the past by neglecting and starving their products. Holden are being killed by GM. It wouldn’t matter what Holden wanted to build, good ole USA parent would deny it, because they can, and they have. Currently I have a 2003 Monaro. Mustang may have the grunt and image, but it doesn’t float my boat. The only bit I liked was the front seats. Sorry, Mustang drivers. I also have a 2005 AWD Commodore dual Cab ..... yep, one of those mentioned. Drives a hell of a lot better than any imported dual cab. It may not have the complete off road capability of an imported 4WD, but realistically, how many are used for what they are designed for ....... excluding mine sites. And, a 2010 Terry Ghia RWD. A damn good compromise of everything you need in a vehicle for many purposes. What can I replace those three with ? The VE Monaro and VE Crewman were on my shopping list, along with second generation V8 RWD Territory. Looks like I can save my money to spend on ................. ??????? |

His fellow workers should have pranked him. Get the Cops to pull him over outside the Ford plant and issue him with a $250,000 fine.
