Pretty stupid choice of car to steal being limited and all.

I hope they just dump it as it is but I doubt it. I saw a GTS-R the other day and they are a pretty awesome car in the flesh.

Yep and as mentioned the real joke will be when the sentence is handed down. Just take em offshore with some concrete boots and push em overboard. I’d happily do the honours.

So how would it work now. Is the owner in their right to say ‘shove the vehicle’.
Legally can they say they don’t want it.

If they paid for a new car, what they now have is a (very) second hand one, so they'd probably be within their rights to refuse delivery.

So where to for the car now? the purists aren't going to want it, might be a case of someone picking it up at a discount and actually using it for what it was built for... I suppose thats some conciliation, still a shame it copped a flogging like that though

Flogged all around the city, big burnouts, lots of wide open throttle applications immediately after cold start...only bit that isn't standard pre-delivery procedure at some dealerships is driving it through a colourbond fence.

Based on what owners are asking for them they will have no problem fixing it up and getting above rrp if the original owner doesn't want it.

photo just popped up on local internet news, one shows front number plate 3 numbers & 3 letters, thats an old plate. Forgotten how many years we have had the S in front. Rear plate had been 'altered' by media.

Literally ..Drive it like you stole it ..unfortunately for the new real owners if they end up taking it. If they choose not to accept it , someone else will get it for a 'steal' ..

Someone will buy it cheap, store it away for a little while. In 50 years' time, we'll be hearing reports of a mega aussie barn-find where someone came across an original W1, with matching numbers. They'll sell it via some auction site where they'll become instant millionaires after a hard-fought bid battle for the last 'original' W1........

Looks like WTO 631 / 621

It wouldn't be WTQ, if I recall correctly that would be a gov vehicle plate and it would be blue text on white background.

WTO631 comes up as "plate does not exist"

WTO621 comes up as an unregistered silver mitsubishi.

This information can be found freely on the ezyreg sa website/app - it's not confidential information FWIW.

Ok, just checked WTQ (both numbers) don't come up as valid.

Yeah I'm thinking it's the silver Mitsubishi sedan plate.

If I recall correctly it took quite a bit of negotiations with GM to just secure the initial supply so I doubt there would be many spare if any.

275 W1s built so I say there could be 20 or more spare engines...............the car is being replaced with a new one apparently which is good news for the owner.

Hopefully the story stays with the car, after all if you dig deep enough almost every car has a story to tell.......................20, 30 years from now the car might be known as the "Gone In Sixty Seconds W1" or something or other.

Cheers Mick

"Gone In 60 Seconds"
was a huge car chase with some great driving scenes.............

I think something more like "Dumb And Dumber Steal a Car" fits this for a name of a movie made about this story.
