What an absolute joke on pricing - so it makes the same power as the WS Fiesta I paid $18K DA for in 2009 when that was new.
When you're getting up to the upper echelon of the Yaris pricing might as well as buy a new Fiesta ST. It looks like $30K is the new $20K of a decade ago, you can't buy **** for $20K these days for a new car. |

those prices are nuts.. but in this day & age its expected..
there is no real local competition to keep prices down, ill sound like a broken record but when you had the option of a falcon, commodore or local camry for prices in the 30's it sorta shamed companies to price their smaller cars more competitively. I'd not pay that kind of money for a yaris !

Someone is importing a few of these little things, the Corolla Fielder wagon. About the old Yaris price point, based on the old Yaris platform. Used, but it's a hybrid wagon which is a bit unique:
https://www.carsales.com.au/cars/toy...fielder-badge/ Edit: you can get AWD versions of it with the 1.5 petrol iirc, would be a handy little beast in the snow... eg https://carfromjapan.com/cheap-used-...7618ea9a00b483

I bet in 2030 the only thing $30K will buy you is a Royal Enfield Himalayan

This is what happens when there is no local manufacturing.
How much did they used to sell Camry's for when they were made here? MG must be smiling and rubbing their hands together.

Toyota is not the only one.. all are doing it.. "chasing higher profits" i believe its called? After all if companies decide there are no profits to make in a segment and pull out (ie fiesta) the others that remain dont have as much competition and once there is less competition. The remaining manufacturers can ask what they want almost

I remember NSW saying privatizing the rego/third party insurance scheme would make it cheaper too, way back.

Or telcos, or electricity, or gas...
All the more reason to get a last, low km Aussie car and pull the bird at the new car market until the recession begins to bite..

erm haven't Ford been doing this for a while now, esp with the Focus and everyone was ok with that cause it made them more money?

That means we can forward forecast sales of Yaris based on Focus, Mazda 2 etc

Betting that people who would otherwise buy pov packs are willing to pay extra but that is a fairly steep increase even if it includes a lot of extra ****.
If anyone can pull it off though it would be Toyota. I guess we will see. |

With manufacturers losing money quite often, it's clear they are selling cars too cheap. I think the higher prices are more realistic based on that. You only need to compare prices from a decade or 2 ago, and factor in inflation, and you will see the prices are comparable. Despite the huge array of technology cars have now, compared to how bare bones they used to be. |

Compare a 1.5L WF Festiva to a WS Fiesta - huge difference for the same price. Then compare a 2009 WS Fiesta to 2019 WG Fiesta The micro car segment hasn't done anything significant in the past 10 years, you're still getting 80-90KW that you got in 2009 that you're getting in 2020 under the hood, the car just has more electronic stuff to wow you with. WF Festiva to WS Fiesta you went from 57KW to 88KW - that's a big jump. Last edited by Franco Cozzo; 20-08-2020 at 02:22 PM. |

all these price increases do for me is make the used car market look more attractive Plenty of kia's , corolla's, cerato's etc for under 22 grand that are less than 2 years old with less than 20 thousand ks... for a suburban shopping trolley.. thats more than enough. Given the current world events .. spending habits will change, discritionary spending will dry up and id suspect more and more will re look at the 2nd hand market or hold off until they have to scrap their runabout.

This is probably why there were still a whole heap of Kingswoods around on the roads in the early 90's recession.

Toyota is the market leader. It’s raised prices. Other car companies will follow the leader.
My theory is that new car prices are being jacked up to pay for ev development and to lessen the gap between ice and ev vehicle prices. I am glad I bought a new station wagon 4 weeks ago at $18990 drive away. I suspect in a years time the same vehicle will be $6999 higher as will new cars bar maybe the Chinese and possibly just possibly the Koreans. |

That is odd, I guess they are betting on those first 1000 will be enough to keep the hype going.
But I dont think its going to be such a revelation that the 1001th buyer would want to pay $10k more....Should have hedged their bets at half way and stuck to it. Why would you get this over a Focus RS?

What the hell is Gazoo Racing? Sounds stupid. And it's a Toyota Yaris underneath. Not exactly a high standard to start with. Although i'm sure it will be a bit of a weapon. I think Toyota must know it won't really sell, cause the 50k RRP is just extreme for something so small. Probably the only way they know they can move them is if they are 10k cheaper. |

Your Google must be broken. It's something that Ford don't have, factory racing teams in most formats.
