I've only been with a girl a bit and said I'm buying another Road Bike.

Super cool Scott carbon frame etc

My wife told me to buy our Fairlane, then she said I could buy a motorbike, then she said we needed a bigger boat (4.4m fibreglass runabout) so I bought a yot to do up. I call it a yot, because I'm not pretentious enough to think it's as big as yours

Launched it last weekend after painting the hull, replacing lots of things inside, so it got wet for the first time in maybe a decade, and the cable holding up the keel snapped, pinning her to the boat ramp. Maybe I can try again in a week, and learn how to sail the bugger! I could see the missus seething a little while we were at the ramp, but then she had a good laugh about it.

I mentioned to my wife that I'd like to build a bike, for something different. So I built an Eddy Merckx EMX-7, with Campag Record running gear. I guess I should ride it more to offset the cost...

The Scott CR1 is nothing special but a handy bike.

The CR1 looks good! I had to work up at Mackay for 4 weeks in December. On the day I arrived I bought a '70's 10 speed racer on FB Marketplace for $40. Fixed it up to tour the area while I was there, then spent $60 to send it home. I've got to ride that too...

Lovely boat and i'm sure you'll get the hang of it and get her sorted out, and once you do don't be surprised if the bug bites. Years ago we had a Sunbird 25 on a trailer, a great little learner, we used to take it up to the Whitsundays and spend a couple of weeks just bumming around the islands, cheap holidays in the sun....

My ex was always on my back about why i have so many cars and bikes ,and would always say i can only drive 1 at a time.so i replied why buy a book when i can join the library .one of the best decisions i have made

I’ve done a six month YouTube apprenticeship on sailing, what could possibly go wrong?

The good thing about our boat is that it is self righting, if things do go pear shaped.

I went sailing with my cousin once on his grandfathers 23 foot hood. I have a lot of experience with motor boats, sailing is a bit different. A lot more technical and you need a bit more patience. Yes i had a nice time, but im not used to all the tacking and the wind denotes your speed. Im more used to point and shoot, playing with trim and im guessing when the 6hp auxilary on the hood doesnt start, its a 0hp boat. My 19 foot bowrider has a 220hp sterndrive. Sailing you set the day aside, you cant control the weather. Motor boats, you can say you'll go out for 2 hours and factoring in setting up and cleaning set 4 hours aside and 4 hours later the thing is flushed, cleaned and parked up beside the house.

Newcastle harbour was my dinghy sailing learning ground, you soon learn how to sail in close quarters due to the ship traffic.

Never had a Cannondale mate but their rep is excellent.

I have a few Specialized but looking to upgrade.

GF wants me to sell them to use for a holiday.

She can have a permanent holiday as the bikes are going nowhere!

Please please understand that handling a sailboat isn't the problem it's the hazards around you. Unsolicited safety advice:

If weather comes upon you you probably can't outrun it, watch the horizon.

If you find yourself close to a lee shore that demands all your attention.

You have right of way over similar size motor boats but you can't count on them giving it, and you have limited control in close quarters.

You don't have right of way over large craft (ships) keep well clear.

If you boat is well ballasted and properly designed gusts are not your biggest problem, but reef early and often. There is little to be gained outside racing from carrying too much sail. The boat will do hull speed under little dacron. If you think about reefing do it and do it now.

Wear your life jacket and insist all crew do also. If you can't afford full safety gear you can't afford to sail.

Never fend off. Even small boats weight almost as much as cars, you wouldn't throw yourself in front of a car rolling toward a wall, don't try to fend off other vessels. Too many have lost digits limbs and lives.

The first boat my dad bought had a 60hp 2 stroke and topped out at 29 knots. Roughly 60kmh give or take. My current unit, got it new in 03 does 50 knots, or 95kmh and its only 3 foot longer, weighs a lot more, but has almost 4 times the power, but revs to only 4800, not 7500 like the 2 stroke 60. Its not scary at all having complete control and getting out of the way of potential hazards. Yeah power boats dont have brakes, but they have reverse to slow you down real fast in a situation. Ive never found myself in a situation, but docking, i use reverse all the time to bring the stern closer to the wharf.

Only real Cannondale's, pre 2007 (Handmade in the USA), before they went bankrupt.

If we're going to go this far off topic and chat about outboard motors go up to Daintree where they like to do it properly

Didn't know that.

Specialized and Giant I've been using.

But as previous I'm buying a Scott to upgrade as it's an awesome buy second hand - just need it checked first and being a long weekend in Hobart I'll have to wait!
