jpd80 agree for look where Mazda is in the market and "choices" range.
May have had some issues in the past yes Dr.Terry if your alluding to BUT what brand doesn't have prob cycles due to selling "volume". I'm impressed where they stand in the market. Ford is ute company whereas Maazda still their share of BT50's nowhere as Ranger but its the rest of the range that pulls in numbers. Would have been a very good long term relationship had it kept going. I'm with you DFB, beautiful Jag always admired them amongst other beautiful designed models such a shame its gone to where they heading.

Does it really matter, either way? Look at the way “luxury brands” have been hijacked by cashed up pseudo-celebrities with seemingly no regard for tradition other than when it can get them maximum likes on Instagram. Doesn’t the image (say) of a black American rapper swigging Moet from the bottle while sporting LV cuff links on a Saville Row suit, make you want to emulate them?
Further to that, the seemingly diligent and more traditional angle has also been hijacked by celebrities who oversimplify and misrepresent products of enduring travail - chummy relationships with suppliers and subcontractors fuel chateau garden restorations, car rebuilds, renovation shows, cooking trends, vet care… Everything is dishonest and dumbed-down. If the “New Jaguar” thinks this self-absorbed, addled market is its cash cow - it makes sense to pursue them with flattery, beguile them with notions of images that generate peer embrace. If the cashflow doesn’t eventuate, they’ll have to rethink. As a closing note, I observe the growing desyllabisation of this marque; a convenient/clever step towards Asian preference for two-syllable product names - Beemer, Mini, Jagwar… |

talking re how going to market is far from the ol days.....
Genisis was/is renting retail space in how many malls around the country establishing their branding and purchase the last number of years. Sure its not the marketing style what Jag owners have come up with but they are looking for new customers of todays world. Look at MG at the lower end - once a iconic brand now a no frills bottom end product. Who'd had thought seeing a 58yr old fight a wannabee so called influencer, dylan, the times are a changin.

A bit more seriously, Jag is the smaller part of JLR.
If Jag sells a few high end electric cars with big margin, that lessens the overall JLR carbon emissions number, which allows the big selling Range Rover and derivatives to continue with their Ingenium inline 6s - or hybrid and electric versions. Of the F-Pace/Velar twins, I believe most of the customers bought the Velar -which is a pity because the F-Pace nailed the handling SUV brief after the update - some great twisty mountain road footage here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1aMr2vUg_zU

Jaguar seems to be taking the opposite approach to Toyota, and that's fine.
I don't think Jaguar were exactly flying anyway, so they're taking a different approach. Time will tell. Most of the people complaining of this change were probably not in the market for a Jaguar, ever. I think the primary demographic that carmakers need to target is by income. Bentley and Rolls Royce aren't going to target me - a regular joe on ~average income who doesn't crave opulence, or care much about his own image. I like my flannies, and I'm still chugging around town in an 07 BFII XT, and I wouldn't change it. Things like gender, race, sexuality, religion etc. shouldn't matter, and I think focusing on particular demographics is idiotic when all people want is a decent bloody vehicle. However, Jaguar can do what they want and ultimately its success will be based on sales. 99% of people here are probably not their targeted demographic, so honestly, whatever. I wish them luck.

With the “quality” in a lot of new house builds around Sydney, I think tradies are definitely embracing the slogan you’ve put there of “It’s good (enough?) to be bad”… Whether they’re woke or not.
As to social propriety, the hip-wriggling of Mr E.A. Presley was once seen as highly inappropriate. All Jagwah needed to do on top of this, was to declare the creation of a bespoke restoration shop that conserved and refitted their classics. If Steinway can do this alongside new tech, surely a car manufacturer can, as well. |
