I was dating a girl when I was 19 and when she found out about the indigenous connection she dropped me like a hot potato because she didn't want to get involved with "a petrol sniffing coon"

A bit of background was that her dad got suspicious of the tins of Avgas in my garage and put two and two together to get seven :

Dad is from Naples in Italy, (Also another nice ish place to visit, provided you can handle theives and pickpockets), while Mums family background is from England, and futher back from Spain.

Me, I'm a lil Dago Boy that acts like a yob when necesary (eg. working at the Warrandyte pub), and I got called 'Wog' when I was a primary school in Cairns (we lived there for 2 years and came back to Melbourne). At work I get called "Oz Wog" cuz I can act like a yob in the pub, but sport a spiked and blonde tipped mullet haircut, and gold earring and chain.... I guess i'm having an identity crisis.... hahahahah

One side of my family (my mum's, mum's side??) actually had the family tree and a full history published in a book.
Of course I could never really be bothered reading it. I might one day.
Other than that I really don't know. My paternal grandmother's famly has Irish somewhere, only met 3 of my dad's father's side of the family.
My mum's second cousin is really into doing the family tree and stuff and has started working on another book for the other side of his family.
Personally I really DGAF, 'cause all the family I know are my parents and one grandparent on each side. Have a couple of cousins on my mums side but they don't want to know us.

My Parents are Swiss, but it does makes you wonder how it all started out in the beginning and why there are these type of different people around eg.Europeans ,Asians ,White ,Black, etc surely Adam & Eve could'nt have started this out. lol

You're right, some of us don't believe in that story. Who else would believe a book written by the greeks in the 12th century?

My Dad's side was traced back to the wife of Captain Bligh, Mum's side came from the Irish, I think!

I know the schoolfriends website now has a family tree search option as well, but I haven't looked into if it's free or not.

I started to do our history when I was younger. I was able in one phone call to get back to origins of my mothers Father. I got as far back as the fact they travelled on the Lady Sarah in the beginnings of Australia. My grandfathers grandfather I think was a cook from Cork in Ireland and the lady he ended up marrying in Aus was from Plysmouth in England. They both travelled on the Sarah & met there later to fall in love & marry .... how cute :P

I also know I am a direct descendant of Captain Thunderbolt(Fredrick Ward). Thats on Mums side.

On dads side Im not 100% sure of the exact details but I know they are of German decent.

It was weird... A lot of our family settled in Tassie, in a place called Irishtown which is sorta near Smithton and Stanley; two pretty famous north western tassie towns. I went there a little while back for a soul searching holiday and found that 90% of the people in that district were relatives of mine in one way or another. One of my grand fathers Aunts married into a wealthy family. How wealthy? They have their own private cemetary!

Throughout my entire family in it's history in Australia we've had a total of 9 VFL/AFL footballers and 5 in the NSWRL/NRL, a state cricketer, A couple of olympic cyclists, a national wood chopping champion, a handful of rodeo champions, plenty of drag racers, a hollywood stuntman, a nationally accredited journalist who's publication is in the top ten of its field, I had a 0.02 second cameo in Skyways [a sh!thouse tv show from the early 80's], my sister saw the first 5 second, 4 second and 300 mph drag racing passes in australia the only three times she's been to the drags which is a fair achievement, a five time cricket premiership player, a member of a shocking mulleted 80's aussie pub band that had a top 20 one hit wonder, a tattslotto winner [wish it had've been me] and I'll think of more.

Mum migrated here from Holland in 1950 - both her parents are Dutch (obviously). My Dad's mother's maiden name was Mc Gregor, so a little Scottish from her side I'd say. Otherwise, my dad's bloodline is Irish - my Aunt found out they came out here around 1850.

So I have Dutch and Irish heritage but don't like beer......

My fathers's side is 100% Scottish (my grandfather was born just outside Glasgow) and his mother 2nd generation Aussie from Scotland. My surname "Gibson" comes from the "Buchanan" clan which traces back to the Prince of Ulster who fled the Normans who were after him and his mates. They got all of the local Norman nobles drunk then dressed as women and snuck in so they could take 'em out! He was taken in by the King of Scotland as a favor to the his father, we received the royal "seal of approval" for our services to the Scottish Royal family by aiding them to drive the English out of the country and gained the crown on our (Scottish) family crest.
My mother's family is (paternal) 100% Scottish from the "Maclaren" clan (in fuedal times they used to blue with my fathers clan), and (maternal) Scandinavian through Germany. They can trace this side back a Viking chief (can't remember his name), though the family eventually moved to Germany. Some of this line moved to England then from there to Australia. The earliest from this line to move to Australia were the "Whalan" brothers, one was sent as a convict and the other as a free settler. They came from an educated family so the convict brother (James I think) was used as a personnal servent to one of the early officials and granted a pardon fairly early in the piece. Between both of the brothers the owned almost all of the Windsor/ Richmond basin north-west of Sydney (the first settlers in this area) and most of the Churches, parks and public places out there are named after them. This is only scrathing the surface as my parents literally have volumes of books and cd-roms full of family info and local area history (Australian) written by or for family members. :

Dad is Aussie, going back to Irish routes (2nd or third gen)

My father married my mother in the Philipines and they came back over here about 21 or 22 years ago.

So yea I'm half Aussie and half Filo ;) Most of my group of friends in school were full/half filos
