i still reckon they will be outclassed by the mazda 3 mps... compared our current 2l mazda 3 to the xr5, and im sure that with the turbo, it will be a more refined and quicker car...
that is the bad thing about these little cars is their clutch... theyre so easy to stall, theres next to no feeling with the take up, and the gear shfts you can do with a finger... not complaining... lovely car to drive...
isnt the xr5 a volvo engine? same as the t5...

Well there is one on the showroom floor at my local dealer here in woop woop so I suspect that there are more than 35. They are actually quite nifty and I am looking forward to a test blat in one.

One paper they appear to have enough mojo to play with with WRX & 350Z etc. It would be a bit embarassing if they were quicker than the V8s though.

We will just have to wait and see, I am sure there will be a few magazine tests in the near future.

Haven't driven a WRX or 350Z, but this cars doesn't feel that quick!! (reputation) V8's would thump them I think.

Well that’s not strictly correct. It has a Volvo engine and Volvo is a member of the Ford group of companies. For that matter, the Mazda 3 mps is also a Ford (in a way) since Mazda is also in the Ford group of companies... just to throw two dilemmas into the whole equation

And I was Quoted September, But seeing as I was a serious buyer he looked into it and said I could get it even Quicker.

I think its a half truth about how long the waiting list is, and the rest is marketing guff..

Regardless, I will wait to see it up against VXR (which i will never ever buy), and 3 MPS.

You could be right about the low import numbers.
I spoke about the X5 with the sales manager at a Gold Coast dealer in April and he said the figures are that low that the one they'd been allocated had been sold sight unseen and he didn't know when thet might get another one.

Well the thing has claimed 6.8sec 0-100, considering its FWD thats an OK time for an understressed engine.

Heres a road test by Top Gear of the ST (same car)

I know what you mean BUT that engine wont have any ford logos imbeded on it anywhere. As for the group of companies, I call it marketing for people that dont care or know what they are buying. Why buy a 4wd ford when its actually a Mazda tribute only thing ford on it is the plastic badge. So I think Im very correct.

is $1800 too much to pay for that orange paint? i love the colour but it seems a bit steep to me.

$2000 for the recaro leather isnt too bad.

I have phoned a good friend of mine who works for Rex Gorrell. He said he will look into on monday and get back to me on price. I went to Duhig as they were closest dealer. The morons only quoted retail, said they wont discount...............

Yes, the Ford badge is missing but I'm not sure that I agree that it’s not a Ford. Ford are majority owners of Volvo and Mazda (as they are majority owners of Ford Australia). They have a controlling input and access to the engineering and components. If I remember correctly, it is 60% of Volvo and 90% of Mazda (100% of Ford Australia) see ford.com.au . Please correct me if the actual numbers are wrong, but I think the general assertion is correct.

I wouldnt call them morons, most dealers wont be discounting the XR5's if someone doesnt like the price its easy to let them walk away as there are people lining up to get one.

Oh and the waiting list is not far from the truth, it depends what dealer you go and see, we are getting a fair few XR5's and recently got one off a country dealer, it will be here in about 10days. and then after that its one a month. the next cars landing that havnt been sold will be here in july.

I took the family AU 11 V8 in for servicing at Centre Ford today and spotted an orange XR5 Turbo demo (couldnt miss it) anyway I ended up taking it for a test drive, wow what a great little car, my two daughters absolutley loved it. Im seriously thinking of getting one for the wife/family. Still a six to nine month wait if ordering new or drive away now in the demo same price roughly. Apparently only three have been sold in WA. Has anyone bought one if so any positives or negatives, are they worth the money.

They are a great little car and fantastic fun to drive

I traded my XR6T in on mine and it is much more fun to drive than the XR6T..

Delivery time is a problem but if you search around the dealers you might be lucky to find on..

I have done various mods to mine and it is putting out over 200kwts now :evil3:

Here is a write up autospeed did on it a few months back..

I thought it was only 25% of Mazda, but I did hear that a long time (read many years) ago.

Can anyone clarify these percentages for us?

Black XR5 in WA

Our silver one is a treasure, effortless cruising on tap performance. Compared to the 3MPS which is more thrilling but allout firm and twitchy, XR5 is far easier to live with, has better ride & handling and looks more modern and aggro.

ive driven both of them, the xr5 t is great, handling is awsome this one is lowered, threw the twisty stuff the xr6t would be a mile behind, in a straight line its a little different the xr6t is a fair bit quiker, the xr5 iss geared really well i believe, its silky smooth.

if i was to choose from the both??

Xr6t looks like your everyday falcon, goes great, doesnt look great unless u spend a fair bit.

Xr5t Chicks dig it, goes good, turns heads, body kit is sweet, looks hot wen dumped.

i would choose the xr5t just.

Ford owns 29% of Mazda - Mazda Share Data.

Volvo Car Corporation is a fully owned subsidiary of Ford Motor Company.
