Simple fact they are the only true super power in existence, like them or not. And before anyone tries to compare China, the yanks could blot them out in seconds, they can't compare. That is why it is a tall poppy syndrome!!!

As for blindly trusting governments, I would love you to name one government that has a shred of intergrity..

In relation to world war 3, I am like some, that are of the opinion that the cold war, kept this war from happening. The US, despite the unfairness of them already having nukes, are doing their best to try and stop nutters like the current Iranian president from obtaining them. He is a nutter. Whether or not you like the state of Israel, he has preached from day one, he wishes to wipe it off the map.

I could sit here and type a ton of things the Americans have done wrong, then I could sit here and type a ton they have done right. One simple fact, despite what you may argue are their motives, they are willing to spill blood for their believes and to ensure others have a fair go. Even if it is their way. The day the Americans stop doing this, I fear, because who else could fill their shoes..............
+1 well said

i take it we have some USA ex-pat's on here ;)

Chris : Sorry to turn your point into a movie cliche, but reminds me of the line from a movie aka "you can't handle the truth" (not you, the american people)

as for the opinions expressed, by a few about how good they do by policing the world. fair enough thats your opionion, but see other threads about Today Tonight, and there MEO unit, and how people have taken offence, well I think if you multiply that globally well perhaps you'll get the idea. As for dictators, I fail to see the difference between the two, One did it openly and the other does it secretly behind closed doors.

but i respect others opinions.

Before the Yanks police somewhere they should learn something about the culture of the place first, instead of wading in and trying to impose their culture and way of life on places that have 2000 years of history more than they have.

They think Europeans are evil and communists lol
Too insular

No mate, just have a few mates in a unit in Iraq, and a few others on a security detail, and some of the stories i have heard are not for this forum.

The things about children alone are a disgrace, not to mention the way women are treated. In a war zone, you cannot apply rational thinking to an irrational situation. It is chaos over there, and the weak and innocent suffer.

I think the yanks should stop acting like the world police and let UN things handle it.

If the US isn't happy with something they (read: Bush) will turn to violence as the way to resolve it. He's starting fights that he can't finish.

Ziggee I am not of US origin. My background is Lithuanian. My family fled tyranny. I am an avid fan of democracy, whatever the flavour. Even in the good ol US of A, people have the right to express their opinions, have a go at the government, believe what they will, and live. :

Speaking of Wars, I've been playing heaps of "Call of Duty 2" on the XBOX360. After each scene, a different war quote comes up on the screen.

I love this one:

"The military don't start wars. Politicians start wars."
- Gen. William Westmoreland

and this one:

"The object of war is not to die for your country but to make the other bastard
die for his."
- General George S. Patton

Cheers,
