Toymotor Aus have said they don't have any plans for a Hybrid Camry here, the business case doesn' stack up thankfully otherwise I'm sure my work would switch it's fleet to them :

The camry we are getting in Australia is based on a Japanese Camry.

The Aurion we are getting is based off the American Camry.

I get criticized for wanting diesel too much on these forums by certain people, but if Ford offered the 2.7TD with a 6 spd manual and 6 auto and got about 150-160kw/ 460Nm@ 1800rpm and 6L per 100km - 1200kms per tank they would sell a bucket load! - would drive nicer than any 4 cyl Camry and better economy

Haha I love it when Toyota try to make a boring car look unique, except that that it looks likes a mix of 5 or 6 different cars moulded together to look again.. boring.

Not saying that it'll be a bad car but it has the charisma of a kia

No, it's the overall cost of ownership. If the resale is on the nose (ie, no appeal to private buyers) smart fleet managers won't touch it.

No its not, The camry that is in america is exactly the same as the camry that is coming here. The Aurion is based on a new platform borrowed from lexus, as it is longer and wider than any camry built. The only things that we might miss out on is the hybrid and V6 (not in the range) versions of the camry. Again, the Aurion is a completely different platform borrowed from lexus.

from what i've heard the Aurion will feature the same Quad Cam V6 that has been powering the camry's for the last 5 or so years.

Now i've been informed of the fact, it makes sense toyota not to bring out a V6 camry here as it would rival the Aurion..... if the aurion is to be bigger than a camry, is it statesman size?? cause the current camry isnt a small vehicle by a long shot.

Toyota Style Australia chief designer Paul Beranger doesn't agree with you.
The following is from this story http://www.drive.com.au/editorial/Ar...11&s_cid=86166

While Toyota will pitch the Aurion as a true Aussie large car, there’s no hiding the fact it will share much in common with the Camry, as the Avalon did.

The middle of the car (doors, roof and so-on) is shared with the next generation Camry that will go on sale later this year.

Despite being pitched as a large car, the Aurion will have the same interior space as a Camry, although revised seating and a new look to the interior provide differentiation.

It also shares similar proportions, although the redesigned nose and tail give it a slighter longer body.

"We did a lot of planning and market research to understand what customers saw as important when they’re looking at different cars," says Beranger, who admits compromises were made because the Aurion will be built on the same production line as the Camry in the Melbourne suburb of Altona. "They don’t care what door handles are on the car, as long as they work. They don’t care about the doors, as long as it’s easy to get in and out."

If you worked for Toyota you musn't have been paying much attention. I don't know much about Toyotas but I do know that the Aurion is nothing but a Camry with a new nose and tail and the V6 engine. It shares the same chassis and the length, width and height that goes with it.

I think the Camry doesnt look to bad far better than the current Camry IMO. The Leyland P76 was ugly but people still bought them.

Not enough to keep the compant afloat tho but saying that the type of people who buy Toyotas really don't care what they look like IMO, the current line up sells well doesn't it.

The current CAMRY looks like dogs balls so I imagine this one will also sell like KRISPY CREME's as well.

The cost of fuel has forced most buyers beyond the cosmetic and into the "total cost" ownesrship aspect for new ownership. Smaller ( read externally compact ) , more fuel efficient , more technologically advanced vehicles are the new flavour. Just look at the demand for the new VW Jetta...it's out of control....VW are scrambling globally to meet demand. Looks like a real small car and yet has a boot larger than Falcon or Commodore !!!!!!!

The TOYOTA faithful will buy / trade in for this new CAMRY in droves........

Is there an specific launch date for the new Camry? There hasn't been much in the media about it. They've been focusing on the VE at this current time.

EEK....that is seriously, um, ugly in my eyes.....

Aurion on the other hand has a bit of potential. Though 'the future of Aussie 6s' and other stuff has been said before.....

Why they have to continually show that blacked out light version Im not sure...Id be happier seeing the real thing.

Not sure I'd pay to see Rogue Traders in concert for that matter either....

I saw a truckload of these new camry's the other day. Nothing special at all really, just another typical bland toyota appliance. I don't think the ve has anything to worry about.

stevz, in sales or in performance, sales they have alot to worry about with fuel reaching 1.50L and toyota traditionaly having strong resale, fleet orders on these have pritty much taking out aug/sept supplies away completely

the new camry is a 117kw 253NM 2.4L VVTI 4 cyl, avl in 5 auto or 5 man configurations, altise, ativa, sportivo, and grande are the only model's avl now

sportivo gets front / rear strut braces lowered suspention 17" alloys with 18" options body kit mp3/wma/cd changer, duel zone climate ctrl, and a few other features with a bluetooth compatable kit optional inc I pod holder.

they are 5 star crash safety ratings with everything bar the altise getting 8 airbags.

grande has rain sensing wipers auto on/off headlights HID lights and full bluetooth/gps/dvd system std 8 way adj driver/pass, heated leather seats + other **** i havent read up on yet ESP/TRC.

not bad all things considered.

Ive seen/sat in a new Camry Sportivo and I think it's a vast improvement over the out going model... It looks more aggressive and a lot less sterile, whilst the leather interior is quite similar to the FPV's leather (with a lot of velour/suede).

This, along with the Aurion, is going to mean good things for Toyota.

i wonder how Toyota will go flogging the Aurion as a seperate model, when all it is is a V6 Camry with a nose and tail job.

Remember in the 90's when they renamed all V6 camry's "VIENTA" and that was a huge failuer?

I will never buy a Camry. One eyed? Perhaps. I just dont like them. I dont like their style, I dont like their performance, I dont like front wheel drive, I dont like bland interiors, I dont like autos (serious question: do Camry's come in manuals???) and I dont like cars which dont come in V8s or with a turbo option.

Id buy many cars over a Camry. But then, I dont think I am really the typical example of the Camry target market. Id buy a Holden over a Camry.

WHEN I can buy a turbo I6 or V8 Camry, rear wheel drive, in manual, with an ECU that can be edited then I might think about it...
