I aggree with the often arrogance, what people often forget is that person singing has something to say how they gets it to their audience doesnt really matter I wreckon.

Hip-hop is sweet im a bit old school NWA, Jazzy Jeff etc now into Eminem Obie trice etc.

If your Really Hip-hop, Dekline and wizard along with Dj Krafty kuts and Dj rectangle are mint hip hop Djs

All I hear from american hip hop is.... well it's just some grown man singing like he hasn't hit pubity yet, and the film clips are just wemon in their underwear just dancing around him
I would not class this is Hip-Hop, All 50 cent, Game, eminem, Chamillionare, they are all just money hungry artists making pretty bad quality Rap-Pop music. They give the real Hip Hop industry a bad name.

Anyways, some artists which tickle my fancy are.

Immortal Technique - Great
Talib Kweli
The Roots
The Pharcyde
NWA
Public enemy
Beastie boys
Bone Thugs n Harmony
Common - Also very good
Dead Prez

Eh, that will do me.
Right now im listening to Fugazi, diversity is great

rap and hip hop is alright.
old school dirty south slowed and chopped is the best for chilling out and i dont like any of the aussie stuff most of the stuff ive heard they all have that same generic aussie voice they all sounded the same and had no character or individuality to them. and using cuss words as a gap filler to try and make it flow aint what i would call "word play" but most 'gangster rappers' (are there any left?) these days think it is.

anything produced by michael '5000' watts is bound to be good. any old underground dirty south is my taste.
when you hear chammilionaire, mike jones, bun b, pimp c, paul wall, lil keke and all the other dirty south rappers on the radio dont judge them by that get some of their original stuff when they were still underground and you hear what they are really about

rip dj screw.

But I just cannot understand why there has to be so much F--- this and F--- that in hip hop and rap. Its totally unnessary.
There's no shortage of metal which is any different.

Out of the aussie rappers I have heard, my fav would be Figgkidd.

From non aussies I listen to NWA, Public Enemy, Spice-1, Wu-tang Clan, Paris, Ill Bill, Necro, Non-Phixion etc.

I love electronic music with rap samples in it (breakcore, gabber, hardcore, dnb, jungle, breaks etc).

im mainly a fan of the older G Funk music, but also have an appreciattion for anything with quality lyrics and beats

my favourite artists are:
DJ QUIK - best producer IMO, i absolutley love his style. very musical and very different.

Warren G
Common
Dogg Pound (older stuff)
Kanye West
Nas
Roots
Kam
Suga Free

im starting to get into more artists like mos def, talib kweli etc.
i cant stand 99% of southern rap, i think that style is why people hate Rap music so much. "bling bling 26 inche grillz yO'

big_pete im right with ya on the gfunk classics, i'm sick of the whole generic dirty south grill music thats coming out and being played out. looks like you're headed in the same direction as me with mos def, common, talib kweli. i got introduced to them through Kanye and of course, Dave Chappelle!

loved kanye west since his production on izzo, went to the concert not long ago.

big fan of Jay-Z and Nas.

i don't like much of the aussie hip-hop i've heard, Bliss n Eso are good.
NZ hip-hop is choice bro

on the southern rap, Ludacris always makes me laugh i always enjoy listening to him

OK, dont know much about the 'scene' aspect... i.e. difference between rap/hip hop/whatever or where the various styles come from and what this means.

Lyrically i think its pretty impressive. Some of these people/groups tell a great story and are usually pretty witty/funny.

Cant stand the "cash-money" attitudes, its just stupid and they're gonna look like fools when the money dries up. More to the point - they ridicule those who are buying their records by pi**ing away the money and rubbing it in everyone's faces.

Cant stand aussie hip hop - accents are laid on too thick (we dont all talk like that hey bro) and the lyrics are mundane. It also promotes the americanisation that we see in the streets every day. Dressed up and limping around like a 300 pound african american, "wow man - you grew up on the tough streets of Melbourne??? Phew, that's so hardcore". Let's face it - no australian city will ever be as dangerous as somewhere like new york or LA, regardless of how baggy your jeans are or how many warrior handshakes you give out.

Musically, i cant do it. I like guitars, melodies, song structure and above all - musical talent (involving musical instruments, not turntables or vocals).

Heck, i'll even go out on a limb and say it (hip hop) is not musical at all. Im not saying its not music - im saying its not musical (again, turntables, samples and beat loops dont count as music in my books).

i guess that means turntables, samples and beat loops do count as music.

Lol, since when did Wikipedia count as conclusive??

Nah - just jokes. As i stated.... its just personal opinion (i think term was "in my books"). What can i say... the thread starter asked why ppl may not like it... im trying to explain why i dont

I stand by the fact that a pair of turntables, a cross fader and a sampling desk dont qualify as musical instruments. It's audio equipment.

while i see where your coming from, with alot of the stuff you find on MTV has very little musical content, with the same ol beat in the background. however there are alot of good producers out there that use alot of instruments in their music.
alot of Piano and drums are used in the stuff i listen to.
as an example DJ Quik has an instrumental track on each of his albums that usually showcases his use of an instrument/s throughout the album. for one album it was high use of guitars another trumpets.
it all depends on what your listening to. as most peoples exposure to rap is the top 20 pop charts which doesnt showcase much talent at all

if its got a good beat and a good theme ill give it a listern..

and i consider turntables to be a musical instrument as it is "played" to create a new sound/bunch of sounds.. ie scratching.. or pulling 2 bunches of instruments together to make a new sound.

its an instrument that uses the sounds of other instruments to make its sound.

otherwise this makes a keyboard(the musical type) not really an instrument either. as it samples anything from drums to piano to violin..
