I have never lent my car to anyone, not even family, for 2 reasons. And I don't lend money either.
1. My car's are always insured, but if someone else prangs it, you not have the inconvenience but you run the risk of losing the friendship/relationship.
2.My cars are insured only for my wife and I to drive, then it's easy to say no.

I dont let people drive my car either.
Dad does occasionally, but only if I'm in the passenger seat, and even then I cringe.

I hate handing the keys over when it goes for service.

Likewise I am not comfortable driving another person's car. Even mum or Dad's.
I also have a thing about people moving seats and mirrors. I try to avoid doing it, or at least put it back as much as possible, and I expect the same in return.

My friend's mum borrowed her car yesterday to go 5 mins up the street to the doctor, cut in next to a truck turning left from the middle lane (legally), and ripped the side out of the car. It's 3 months old. Will most likely be written off.
She cried for 7 hours afterwards because she was so upset at having destroyed her daughters' car.

When I drive my xr6 I dont mind getting gutter rash on the rims.
But when I drive my dads Tornado its a totally different story, one mark on those black rims, kills the look of the car.

You lent a Force 6 to someone for a week?

Why didn’t you just lend them a hand gun?

If they can afford an overseas holiday, they can afford to replace a couple of wheels and tyres. It’s as simple as that.

Will never lend cars to people unless its an emergency... I let dad back my EL out once, scraped the front right guard on a small tree and did some minor scratching... not lending it again .

Can I be your friend ???

Oh yeah...my car has to go in for a service next week. Can I borrow your car?

Seriously though I hate lending money and/or cars to family because it gets icky and uncomfotable for you and them if it goes badly.

That said I have to admit Mrs Ringo and I are currently owed over $4k from family for bailing them out of various stuff ups of their own creation....6 months on and only some of it has been paid back.

Raise the issue with your mate and if he is a true mate then he'll cough up to make good. When I was mechanic I borrowed and then busted/damaged tools from two guys I worked with - I bought them them new replacement tools ASAP of exactly the same brand & type and bought myself the same tool so I never needed to borrow it again...not everyone in the workshop was so honourable I can tell you.

I have given my car to a close family member to use for a good 2 - 3 weeks while I was on holidays from work and they were getting there car resprayed only cause I trust them plus I drive there car from time to time as well.
If they did damage it though I know that they would pay up and I would do the same.

Yep, just recently my wife and i went overseas, and left my wifes barina at her parents. I specifically said not to let her little brother drive it.

well, they did, and its a true Sh!tb0>< now.

Gear shifts are stuffed, especially 3rd, one wheel damaged, aerial on roof broken. I wouldnt let him drive a matchbox car!!! I wasnt happy to say the least.

I was also told by a friend that he was driving it all the time, and driving like a toss.
