Good advice ... if i sold all the parts seperately off mine ... I'd get more for the parts than what the ute is worth ... LOL

Jap Cars are hell to get parts for, AU's you can walk into basically any auto shop and get what you need, or have it ordered and arrive in a few days.

Detail your AU, polish it up, get it looking nice then have a good look at it. You'll soon see whether you really want to sell it or not.

You'd be surprised actually! I wanted a top radiator hose and neither Supercheap Auto or Repco had them!

Common Simon dont sell it. You will regret it !!!

Sounds like you need some more power. Either do work on your engine, or fit a BA motor in there !!!

my previous car was a bg mazda sp, plenty of power for a small car (more powerfull than the sr20 sss) and awseome on fuul (520km per tank on premium). having the sp you get the sunroof, power windows, and the DOHC engine. i sold mine for $4700 but it as absoultey spotless. thats my recomendation.

I think that the point made about spare parts is valid. My wife owns (leases) a Eurocar and whilst it's only new parts that are used (when req) the costs are exorbitant.

My own experience with Japanese made cars is similar.

If you are serious about info on good/reliable etc cars, head on over to forums where the people who own them and play with them can give some reliable info.

as I said, if you want povo, go something a bit older, any repairs can be proformed by yourself or even a trained monkey and because its older there are plenty of cheap parts at any given wrecking yard

Surely your car isn't using too much gas Simon?

Take a bex, lie down and think of the millions (read Billions) of people in the world without a car.

Take a pen and paper, write down everything that you have to be thankful for, and perhaps this car discontent will be back in perspective.

All the best with your ponderings!

Take care,

GK

I think there must be a point to the actual sale itself? What wre you planning to do with the rest of the money? surely you weren't going to ask for $5000 for the AU?

A guy from work bought a 300zx TT for $8,000. Sounds like a bargain?? Well, it took him over 6 months to get it roadworthyed and a lot of money down the drain in the process and after all that, its been shagged, bits falling apart here and there, turbos about to die. If you feel a need to fit in with all the other fast and the furious die-hards, then go ahead if it makes you happy. Or you can heed some of our sensible and realistic advice. If your after fuel economy, don't even bother with fast cars. If you want reliability for $5,000, get a low k aussie car or european car, the japs will be thrashed to bits. And if you want performance, a boosted straight 6 will run rings around the 4cyl boys.

i apologise for my earlier lack of help...

so.. it would depend on what you are after in a car... if you can privide a little more info as to what you are after in a car.. ppl might be able to help you out a little more..

instead of jap/euro car.. say.. maybe a year you would like.. auto or manual.. power steering? air con? etc.. with a few more details about what you want from a car.. hopefully ppl can be a little more helpful for you..

having owned an excel before.. i can say they are a comfortable car to drive.. and don't die.. for around 5k you should be able to pick up something fairly nice.. with air con and power steering... mine was a 5 speed manual.. and it went quite well...

good luck with selling you car..

Trent

For less than $5000 you wont get much jap cars that aren't high maintenance or reliable. But in saying that, the early to mid 90's corolla with the 4AGE are excepitional cars, plenty of poke, reliability and parts are a dime a dozen and good on fuel, you could probably get one for less than or around $5000 depending on condition. If your willing to spend the money you could probably get from the falcon and want good performance than you can't go past a Nissan with either an SR or RB engine in it. They have awesome power for money ratio and parts aren't really that rare or costly, seeing they're the current boom of the performance scene there are heaps of aftermarket parts available over the counter in most parts stores. But You'd be looking at $9000+ to get one in good non damaged condition. However if your just after a cheap cruiser with potential later on then an s13 with a ca18 non turbo would be the go, expect about $5000 to $7000. But beware, most performance jap cars have had damage or are dodged up for sale......
$3800 for an r31 skyline sounds a bit steep but it depends on condition.
Stay away from korean cars (eg. Excels.....etc)Haha;)
I reckon european cars would be harder to get parts for than jap cars
Ford tx3's are good
Lancers, magnas and mirages are good depending on rice factor
These are just my opinions, suggestions and ideas on something that will make you go crazy thinking about it for ages, its so hard choosing a new car so hopefully this will help

By the way don't get me wrong, i'm a ford man thru and thru

If you have been offered 9k from a dealer take it QUICK! There is a red au1 here for sale on gas with 100,000km in very good nick for sale for $4300 and the seller can not move it and its on a main street.

In the way of cars I think you have the following options
Mega cheap > Sigma, colt, celica all around late 70's early 80's
Cheap <$5000 > 80's skyline, early 90's subaru, early 90's lancer

Not alot to be honest. I got my car from the auctions and the guy who runs the place says if you want a good car don't go below 10k and he has been in the business 20+ years. My cars 2001 model au with t3 kit, 19" mags, full te50 interior and turbo'd and Id be surprised if i got offered between 10-15k for it. So if you can get 9k do it ASAP

Your reasons are your reasons, no argument there!

This is an AU forum, we appreciate AU's and how far yours has come. It'd be sad to see it go.

What response were you honestly expecting from all of us?

All the best with the sale and purchase.

like i said, return it to stock, then see if they'll give you the 9gz... if they do, like someone else said, take it a run, then flog the springs etc for an extra couple of hundred on the side.

Im loving the looks of the BA!!!!! If i can get the right price for my AU then it's going to happen.....

The BA WILL REMAIN STOCK for quite a while!

Cheers

Simon

So can i now have some advice on the BA XT's....

Is there any problems i should look out for when buying a BA XT?
(Eg. Engine problem etc)

And how much should i be looking at paying for a BA XT?

Is the E-GAS engines any good?

No stupid comments please.....
