I went to Mums in Montrose yesterday all morning and we were listening to it all on the scanner. They had 2 crime scenes. One in Launching Place, and one in Mount Evelyn. Warbie Hwy was blocked off, and they were letting nobody through. I heard on the news exactly what it was. My heart sank.
It was a true wake up call knowing something of this size can happen literally 5km up the road. It puts everything into perspective. My condolences to all that knew the Constable, and to the shooters family. Just quickly, does anyone know anything about the incident that happened outside Safeway on Canterbury Rd in Kilsyth on Thursday night between 5pm - 6pm? We had a copper chopper flying over our place all arvo, and then I witnessed a motorbike rider crash, 10 cop cars rock up and get him, then the SWAT team arrived. Just trying to find out what the man did. |

Jesus that sucks, all over a speeding ticket.
SWAT team? You mean SOG? Unless it had SWAT all over the van, which I'd suspect is part of that movie they are filming. |

My condolences go out to his familyand friends, especially his wife and 2 year old son. It is a very sad sign of the times.
Apparently a taxi found the XR8, and the guy was not in the car when he shot himself but had wandered further into bushland. He 'apparently' also had a psychiatric background. Still so needless.

From an OH&S point of view - Why the single patol?
I understand the Police Force dealing with budjet cuts but the cost is far too great here. R.I.P Senior Constable Tony Clarke

My condolences to the officers family as well.
The police car was a blue XR6 turbo from Knox TMU. I was followed by that car last year, it's got BMC cold air intake and Herrod stickers on it. Sundeep |

I'm not sure if it was the SWAT team, but my passenger suggested so.
It was a big black van, and 5 men jumped out with little black helmets on, totally dressed in black, with a belt on that had heaps of accessories on it, and HUGE guns, pointing them down onto this motorbike rider. Frtiends suggest a training operation. I find that hard to swallow. Just trying to see if anyone knows/heard what exactly went down |

Im suprised this kind of thing hasn't happend before, because Australia is so big public transport doesn't go everywhere. Some people can't afford to lose their license, it means they have no job and they lose their home and car. Considering how unfair speed enforcement is in Victoria stuff like this is going to keep happening in my opinion.

Those who know me will know this sort of thing hits me pretty hard so I will set it out plain and simple: Keep this thread about condolences now that we have found out the major details.
Anything off topic will be deleted immediately and the poster's future on the site will be discussed. It's not hard, if you don't like police that's fine by me but do not foul up a thread with these thoughts. Already we have two people who are under discussion, I do not want to make it more as that's not what we are about. Think before posting. RIP Tony CLARKE. To the rest of the police out there doing their job, be bloody careful !! |

My condolences go out to Tony, his circle of family, friends and workmates who will miss him dearly
Having a brother & sister in law pretty high up in the force involved with some pretty nasty activities and people is a bit worrying to us and to those who think Vic police need some help with issues..... remember you only get told what the media releases, there's a lot more than meets the eye. Theres 1000's of officers doing what they they want to do and it's a bad part of society that this happens to some and denies their family and friends the pleasure of the rest of their lives |

Give the boys in blue glocks.
More power, and absolute zero tolerance. From where I stand, (live) Australia is getting worse and worse. In china and hong kong, people actually RESPECT the police, for fear of the results of breaking the law = no breaking the law! I am not saying the situation for Chinese is "good" but there are very few incidents that occur, and it's simply because you don't just get a slap on the wrist. I have a few friends in the force and have a huge respect for them all. It's a hard, underpaid, misunderstood profession that takes big b.lls to do. This is just wrong. Condolences all round. |

Our sympathy and condolences to the family and friends of the officer killed. Having had friends and family in the police force who work tirelessly to protect and serve, yes, it is a damn hard job, with gruelling hours, crap money and can destroy families, as in this case.

I only heard about this on the news this morning and what I have read here.
There hasn't been a police shooting in ages. So, did was the gun the officers? How did the criminal steal it? Very sad to hear something done that is so senseless. Also the fact the crim took the cowards way out just shows what sort of guy he is! Also, I didn't know the police pulled you over unless there were two (one at your window and one in police car).

He was by himself, and he had pulled the guy over 2 hours before. When he pulled him over at 1am for a breath test, there was a struggle, the shooter got ahold of the Sen Const's gun, made him lay on the ground, and shot him in the back of the head. The gunman had been at a 21st hours before (so was a chance he was over)
He was only one hour away from finishing his shift, in a job he loved that he'd being doing for 11 years. It's just such a waste, and it's not fair. They are out there putting their lives on the line, and this is how they're shown appreciation. It's downright disgusting. I cannot imagine what his Widow must be going through. I wish all families involved the strength they need to get through this hard time. |
